How to Train Your Dragon 2 - Preview

Now THIS, THIS is something I'm hyped for. The first How to Train Your Dragon was brilliant, it had hilarious jokes for all ages, incredible visuals, huge emotion and even made 3D look like a good idea - a true Disney killer. Even coming out of the cinema after it I remember myself and Mother saying that it should become a children's classic without a doubt - a new Shrek if you will.

One 'bad' thing I took from this trailer is Cate Blanchett's god AWFUL accent (her character one of course, don't be mean..), it might get a bit annoying - like an American film Irish accent. My muse, my flame and me have a date to go see this as soon as it's out and while I'm excited, she is going CRAZY over everything to do with this as she adored the first.

The Fault in Our Stars - Trailer

Honestly, I was never really drawn into the hype-train for this movie, or the book for that matter. But what I do know is that it has garnered a MASSIVE amount of support over here in the last year - with the huge support from places such as Tumblr and the passing on of the book from friend-to-friend ala Fifty Shades of Grey before it this could be a smash.

Shailene Woodley follows a solid performance at the head of Divergent to become co-star of this film, she really has been getting the right parts in the right type of movies and she seems well able; I'll be interested to see how she plays Hazel.

Win an iPad for Your Travels: Play Falcon Holidays Sunshine Selector

Some people are incredibly gifted at finding great holiday destinations at knock down prices. My own sister is so good at it that we've nicknamed her Stone Travel (she married Mr. Stone), I, on the other hand am less than useless.

Case in point the last fortnight spent scouring websites, catalogues, travel agency windows and cross referencing the lot with wildly varying reviews before giving up on the hope of new horizons and settling for somewhere we'd been before.

I've teamed up with Falcon Holidays to make life easier for you though and share the news of the Falcon Sunshine Selector. It's a fun, interactive game that has been added to their website and aims to find you your perfect destination in just 7 simple questions.

“For over 25 years, Falcon have been sending Irish families on their dream holidays,” says Charlotte Brenner, Marketing Manager at Falcon, “so we know each of our destinations inside-out. This simple, interactive quiz is a great way to demonstrate that knowledge and make choosing your summer holiday destination easier than ever.”

Not only will this fun little quiz point you in the right direction, literally but Falcon are also giving two very lucky participants an iPad Mini to take with them on their travels, simply for playing.

You can play directly on Falcon's site or click here now but be quick about it as the competition ends this Friday.

Andale,andale! Arriba, arriba!

The Best SPFs - Tried & Tested ft Ambre Solaire, L'Occitane, Nuxe, Shiseido & Vichy (Selfie Warning)

It's a well known fact (it is!) that I go through an awful lot of preparation and devote a lot of time to trialling products before a full review. When the summer launches, consisting mainly of new sun protection and SPF skincare began to roll around in April, I knew there was nothing for it than to gather up some Gorgebags and hop on a jet plane to the sun. It's not an easy job but someone has to do it, right?

First up we had to find some sunshine - Aaah 33 degrees of Majorcan sunshine? 'at'll do!

Garnier Ambre Solaire Dry Mist: Factor 20 Brilliant for the beach!
A new one from the Garnier laboratories, Dry Mist is available in 3 Factors and what one might call 'a can of witchcraft'. The tiny spray nozzle dispenses a fine transparent, delicately scented, mist that feels dry to the touch almost immediately.

Non sticky and formulated with mattifying powders that leave a satin finish on the skin, this invisible SPF soaked in within moments and left my poor Momma baffled. She's a big believer in SPF being alabaster white in order to be doing any sun protecting. Each time she sprayed it was echoed with 'Can't be, CAN'T be'. It can, it could and it's pretty bloomin' good!

Nuxe Sun Delicious Cream for Face
The new suncare range from luxury brand Nuxe is delicious by name and delicious by nature. My pick of the SPF crop for this sun holiday had to be the Delicious Cream for Face (yep, really). Formulated and scented with sunflower, water flower and carob oil, this rich SPF lotion is a joy to apply and reapply and reapply, which is handy at factor 30 as you'll need to do it quite a bit through the day.

I found myself alternating this with Shiseido Factor 50 as I'm plagued with pigmentation but it never once left my mála and I now have a pretty decent sunkissed glow because of it. Alcohol and paraben free I found it didn't clog my pores or become too heavy on the skin like some facial SPFs can. It's a deliciously scented winner.

Best SPFs, Jenipapo, Loccitane, Sunshine, Holiday Creams
L'Occitane's new Jenipapo Protecting Body Jelly Milk
Another new release, the L'Occitane Jenipapo Body Jelly Milk is an SPF 20 and available in their Made in Brazil collection. Designed for the women in Brazil, living in hot and humid climates, this nourishing body milk was a joy to use, the SPF was just a sunshiney plus.

Formulated with shea butter and the Jenipapo extract from the sun worshiping Brazilian tree of the same name, it feels more like a body treatment than an SPF. It soaks in quickly, leaves no sticky residue and lightly scented the skin with the smell of bright florals. Having used a Piz Buin spray, Adam used this to cover a mole on his shoulder blade a second time, we could actually see the white ring of protection that evening as he changed for dinner. Jenipapo, you're a keeper.

Vichy Suncare Oil
This beautifully scented oil from Vichy is another that you'd be hard pressed to believe is an SPF at all. It possesses all of the Vichy sun care goodness though, just in a silky soft oil solution.

Containing broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, this oil is also fortified with Vichy Thermal Spring Water (another sunshine favourite that occupied our Mallorcan fridge for the week). This is the one that Momma threw in her mála more often than any other - her alabaster worries clearly abated after Ambre Solaire.

Ambre Solaire Wet Skin
Another newbie from Garnier this year is Ambre Solaire's Wet Skin. This is pretty big news for those that love to swim on their holliers or those that like to sit with their legs in the pool trying not to gawp at the gorgeous girls on their own holidays *ahem*.

Non greasy and almost as invisible as its Dry Mist compadre, Wet Skin is very water resistant and can be applied directly to wet skin (hence the name). While the scent on this one was too 'alcoholic' for me, the lads absolutely loved it. We didn't even get to the end of the week and it was all but used up. They spent a lot of time in and around the water. #vantagepoints

Shiseido Expert Sun Aging Protection Lotion Plus - Factor 50
So protective, it watches for sharks, while I sip sangria!
I hadn't realised Shisiedo were number one for sun care in the US, had you? Having used two of their products this week I have no notion why they aren't battling for the top spot on Irish soil too. This Protection Lotion was a manna for our skins this week and always the fall back when the sun was at it burniest. Like a protective, dependable veil for the skin.

Whiter than any of our other picks, what with the higher SPF, this lotion took slightly more time to apply but felt nourishing and comforting while doing so. Light enough to be used as a make up base, this is one I'll be repurchasing for a long time to come. And see their complementing SPF foundation?! BLAHHDY LOVE IT, you'll have to wait for the SPF make up post for more on that though. Soz.

SPF'd up but you'd never guess for our 'in the sea' selfie
Whether you're jetting off to sunshiney climates or catching your rays here on home soil, the importance of SPF can't be overstated but you don't need me to wag my finger and tell you that. These 6 iterations won't set you wrong if you're looking to make a purchase, it's just a shame* we had to go to so much trouble** to fully test the blighters out.

Tell us, what's your SPF du jour? Do you have a brand you go back to again and again?

* unbridled joy
**absolute feckin' pleasure

Things That Smell Like Holidays - Guest Post By Lovely Girlie Bits!

Ah, Thank Crunchie it's Friday!

This morning we have the one and only Karen from Lovely Girlie Bits taking over the site. Does Karen need any introduction? One of my favourite bloggers and people, her posts never fail to make me laugh and if you're not one for reading you can follow her youtube shenanigans too!

Take it away Karen!

Unless I win one on the radio or win the lotto, I've no plans for a summer holiday this year.  While I am now accepting this (kinda), I can still go to my happy place - my beauty stash - and pick out some products that will help me pretend I'm away in Spain.  I like things that have light and bright scents because when I'm feeling all meh and want to pretend I'm away and not at my desk at work, a quick sniff of one of these beauts and all is right in the world, for a few minutes anyway!

The Body Shop Coconut everything.
I've never been on a tropical island, but the Coconut range from The Body Shop instantly transports me to a white sandy beach where I'm wearing a coconut shell bikini, the sand isn't getting stuck everywhere, you know where I'm talking about ladies and I can walk effortlessly in the soft sand, rather than my usual oaf-like method.  I've a massive fan of the lip balm and body butter from the range and it's an added bonus that they help my skin and lips stay smooth, soft and moisturised.

4711
When Tom Ford's Neroli Portofino first launched a few years ago, I feel in the ultimate and absolute love with it before mentally chastising the models in the ad campaign for wasting such precious smelling liquid.  I will own this some day because it's one of the only scents I visit when I'm in Brown Thomas and I know when I do own it, I'll be rationing it because it's mucho expensive-o.  Until it's mine, I'm happily making do with this bottle of 471 I bought in TK Maxx recently.  It smells like orange blossom, sunshine, blue skies and happy days.

Malibu lip balm
This was a recent impulse purchase in Penneys and I'm obsessed with this Malibu lip balm.  Now hands up, I totally did think it was going to smell and taste like the Malibu you drink with Diet Coke, but no, it's mango flavoured which makes me imagine the massive fruit salads I eat outside in the sun on holidays.  Fruit just tastes better in the sun doesn't it?  Anyway, it's one of my new favourite lip balms and really hydrates my lips while making them smell and taste fruity.  Can't get much better than that.

Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum
This stuff is seriously amazing and again, has the ability to transform me from my drab work clothes into a pretty white summer dress, complete with a big white sun hat, but in my imagination, the sun hat actually fits my massive head, rather than leaving a big dent across my forehead and a headache.  It's got those orange blossom notes that I'm obsessed with, is warm, tropical and one of the must have scents for summer, whether you're going away or not.

SPF
We've all done it.  On a lovely sunny day at the start of summer, we've rooted out a bottle of last year's SPF, readying ourselves to sit outside and complain that it's too hot.  We start with the arms and as soon as we start rubbing it in, we say to ourselves and whoever else happens to be there "Ooh this smells like holidays".  It's a fact and if I'm sitting out my back garden with goose pimples galore, if I squeeze my eyes shut real tight, take a whiff of my arm, then I could be anywhere in Spain.... That's the theory anyway.  The fact that SPF stops you from burning is a bonus.  I just love the smell.

And just so you know, I now smell like all of these things at this moment in time.  Yes, I'm one of those bridies that swans through duty free and tests out all the perfumes and then you're left to sit beside her. I smell like holidays right now.  Holidays on speed and I blahddy love it.  Now, where would one get an elasticated sun hat for a massive noggin like mine?

Three Treatments: Gel Polish in Dublin - Guest Post from Viva Adonis

This morning we have the pleasure of Dee's company to take us through some of her best gel polish treatments in Dublin. Dee is one half of top Irish beauty blog Viva Adonis and one of the most down to earth lovelies that I have the pleasure of knowing. Dee knows her stuff and some of her stuff is this -

Take it away, Dee!

I am a nail polish obsessive and collector. My nail polish buying has slowed a lot over the last year or so, though, mainly because a) my collection is out of control and will last me for the rest of my life, and b) I've become very fond of the odd gel polish manicure.

If you've never had gel polish applied before, here's a little run-down: it's done in layers after quite a bit of buffing, and cured layer by layer for 30 seconds or so under an LED lamp. When applied well, gel polish won't really damage nails. In terms of removal, you can do it yourself at home with some acetone and tinfoil, or else go back to the salon. Some charge up to a tenner for removal but not all.

Why do I love these manicures so much? Well, with nail polish, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I change my polish frequently because I cannot abide leaving it on with any chips. A gel mani offers longevity that I just can't achieve with even the best polishes, and if I'm really busy, it's one less thing to worry about appearance-wise. It's also a lovely treat before any kind of holiday!

Tropical Popical - 28 South William St (Nail Techs may or may not move at sonic speed)

My little love affair with Tropical Popical began last summer, when I nabbed a voucher for the salon at a charity auction - nothing better than doing some good for humankind and my nails in one fell swoop! The voucher I had was for some kind of luxury manicure package, which I really enjoyed as I suffer from some seriously raggedy cuticles. I went back a couple of more times for gel polish, including some seriously funky nail art form Electric Picnic, and was really pleased most times although, as is the case almost everywhere, some technicians are certainly better than others. In general my gel manis have lasted well from here but, they were expensive and if you only pay for Gelish, you won't get any extra cuticle work done at all. They have recently reduced their prices so a basic gel mani is now €25 - not bad.

Overall, I do like TP but it's not cheap and not relaxing in the 'traditional' sense as they do very quick appointments and it's often busy and buzzing. It's a fun place to visit, though (I love the interior) and I've often appreciated how fast they get the job done.
It's also a great place to hit up if you work in the D2 area and want a bit of me-time after work.

Go if... you like your nails quirky and seen to super-fast, and don't mind parting with a little extra cash.

After my foray with Tropical Popical I decided to venture a little closer to home. Let's Face It in Artane is a well-established salon known by many in the area, and I've had a load of great gel manis here. The interior is a typical beautician's setup; relaxing and welcoming with scented candles and all of that jazz. They're cheap at €23 but I've found that cuticle work only happens if the salon is quiet, so all you're really paying for is the mani. I did have one bad experience here when the girl actually scratched my hands from filing a bit too enthusiastically, but the actual manicure she did was spot-on. Some gel manicures I've had here have lasted weeks; one only stayed for less than a week before it started to peel. This place is walking distance from my house so I will probably go back but it's not always a wow experience

Go if... you're a northsider, or willing to travel for a good price!

J Nails on Capel St

Most recently (a week and a half ago as I type this), I tripped up to J Nails on Capel Street, Dublin 1. It was a bit of an impromptu visit but I'd heard great things about the place on Twitter and from my boyfriend's mam. The interior's a bit basic but it was very quiet when I visited (save for some hilarious tunes), so I found it quite relaxing. I had no appointment but was seen to after five minutes for what was the best gel polish I've had in ages. The polish was applied so well - right next to the cuticle so I'd get maximum longevity from the treatment. My nails are still totally perfect now and I think they'll be good for a full three weeks - great for €28.

J-nails, to me, is the clear winner here as not only did my manicurist apply gel polish with incredible precision and care, she buffed and trimmed my cuticles beautifully, with serious attention to detail. She told me that the cuticle work was standard there, whereas other places bundle up their nail packages so you'll end up paying quite a bit extra just to have your bloody cuticles trimmed. If you compare your pricing to other 'packages' in Dublin, they definitely come out on top for value. I'll be returning for the foreseeable!

Go if...you're looking for the best value and quality manicure in Dublin City!

EYE Bright - Top 3 Solutions for Tired Eyes - Guest Post from Snapped Up

This morning we are joined by Stephanie from SnappedUp.ie. One of the most put together and ambitious gals in the Irish blogging community these days, her love of all things pink and the head on her shoulders led her to intern with tan of the moment Cocoa Brown, so impressed were they with her work that she's now their PR & Marketing Exec - Go Steph!

Take it away, Stephanie!

Its one thing to get your skin looking great but another story all together to brighten up tired eyes, especially if you're…well, constantly tired.  Whats worse, it's usually the first place a person looks when you meet them, unless they have some freakish social anxiety disorder and can't look you straight in the eye. In that case, you probably shouldn't go there.

Truth is, tired eyes are the most common thing in the world like back pain or migraines. Who doesn't suffer from them? Foundation helps cover up lumps, bumps, redness and even gives us a more tanned complexion. However, to get rid of those dark, swingy under-eye bags is a more tricky task.

Fret not, my friends. I am queen of under-eye baggage and I can assure you, mine was not always Louis Vuttion baggage. I want to share with you some products that, in just one whizz, will change your fake Prada bags into, er…looking not so fake.

On a Monday morning, who doesn't need an 'instant lift'? I'm a huge Clarins fan and this product lifts and lives up to its promises  - Its one of my favourites from their range for sure.

The concealer is a runny, thin consistency which allows it to be swept and blended under the delicate eye area.  It has added aloe vera so not only does it hide tired eyes but it refreshes and soothes 'em too. For €24, its sounds close to the price of a foundation but a little goes a long way and I can honestly tell you mine has lasted over 6 months at this stage. €24/6months = not that expensive.

This is a newbie from GOSH and I absolutely love it. Its really been a while since I've got my hands on anything from this range.  The Prime and Refresh Illuminating Eye Roll-on is a refreshing roller ball that you glide under and over your eyes before you apply your makeup. It leaves a trail of white liquid which you then blend right in making a smooth surface for makeup to adhere to.

The product gives you a boost on application, with its cool, sensual rollerball. Also, when you blend it in (I just use my finger)  it sets into your skin it counteracts the dull shade of your skin, brightening it up and also tightening it in!

How could I finish up this feature without a special mention for my main man, YSL. This is a pricey product but worth its weight in gold. I pick one up whenever I'm in the airpot to save a couple of yoyo's on it and it has definitely become a makeup bag staple of mine.

The best thing about this baby is that its suitable for all skin types and I think thats why its loved by so many women across the world. The award winning sleek beauty tool claims to be "powered by the radiance-boosting Luminocaptide Complex".  I'm not so sure what that is, but it definitely works a treat for me.

This product also doubles up as a highlighter too, which is no harm considering the price tag.  I take it everywhere for little makeup touches on the go and it looks pretty sleek too so I'm only too proud to whip it out in public.

One Shadow To Rule Them All. The Eye of Satin Taupe! - Guest Post from Dolly Rouge!

This morning I'm delighted to say we're joined by one half of one of my favourite Irish blogs, Kat from DollyRouge.ie. Kat is a no nonsense, tech savvy sweetheart, working on a post grad in medicinal chemistry and debunking the beauty blurbs one by one. If you have a question about 'the science bit' Kat is your gal, also if you're a bunny lover, I've no doubt Kat is your pal too. Be sure to head over to Dolly Rouge to check out their straight up awesomeness as a blog.

Take it away, Kat!

In the Land of MACdor where the shadows lie... Ok I'm sorry I'll quit with the LOTR quips now. I just couldn't help myself!

There's a belief in the beauty world that one needs an array of eyeshadows in every colour of the rainbow. An eye look is not complete without using at least 173 of said shadows on the little canvas that is your eyelid. YouTube gurus, makeup artists and bloggers alike are all guilty of perpetuating this myth. Well, as the laziest beauty blogger in the world, I'm here to tell you, IT'S ALL LIES. Srsly. All you need is one shadow. O.N.E.

Not good at pairing complimentary colour combos? Haven't quite mastered the art of blending? Have about 0.2 seconds to get yourself together in the morning? This post is for you. The key is to pick an eyeshadow with duochrome, and it can do all the work for you. Case in point? MAC Satin Taupe. I'm sure many of you have this in your collection already. If you don't, don't rush out and buy it. Wet N Wild do a perfectly passable dupe in their Silent Treatment trio, the one marked “eyelid”.

So here's the story (Rory). MAC Satin Taupe/ Wet N Wild Silent Treatment Eyelid shade is a mushroomy, brown-taupe shot through with a silver frost. The silver frost catches the light, while the taupe hides out in the recesses. This means that when applied all over the lid and blended into the crease, Satin Taupe alone does the job of multiple shadows – giving brightness on the lid and darkness in the crease. Don't believe me? BOOM.

For a daytime look, apply with a fluffy blending brush, ensuring to soften the edge above the crease. Pair with your daytime liner/mascara of choice and a nude lip and get out the door! It's a lovely, work appropriate look.

For a nighttime look, also smoke the shadow under the eyes and pair with black liquid liner, or smudged out kohl on the upper lid and water line. It goes very well with a strong lip, as the following pictures show.

There you go, that's my precious secret. Most times I've had compliments on my eyeshadow in my YouTube videos, this is what I've been wearing. Another one to try is MAC Club, which is a darker brown with teal duochrome. The teal comes through on the lid and the brown marks the contour. Gorgeous.

Will you be trying The Eye of Satin Taupe?

Kat.

Image Skincare Vital C Review - Guest Post by Glitter Mama Wishes

First up on our guest post whirligig we have Yaz from Glitter Mama Wishes chatting about Image Skincare's Vital C Moisturizer.
Yaz is a young Mum to three gorgeous children and still finds time to post regularly about beauty, parenting and lifestyle over on her blog. You should check her out tout suite.

Take it away Yaz!

Image Skincare, Vital C, Clinical Skincare, Dehydrated Skin

Hello Cherry Sue readers. I am delighted to be writing a review on one of my all time favourite blogs! Thanks so much Sue for having me :))

Today I'm showing you my favourite skin care brand as of late, Image Skincare. I came across this brand and have since been literally obsessed with their products. A lot of research and care goes into each of their products so as a beauty therapist and skin care addict I really trust this brand with my skin.

Image Skincare's Vital C range is ideal for anyone with dehydrated/fatigued skin due their environment, smoking or stress etc. It has a rich blend of natural botanical and of course Vitiman C. All the Vital C line Is packed full of antioxidants to protect and nourish your skin! Yummy!

The Vital C Hydrating Intense Moisturizer (bet your skin feel thirsty now!!) comes in a handy pump dispenser tube so no dipping of dirty fingers in jars. The cream comes out really thick but glides onto your skin like silk. From the second you pump this out you will get such a gorgeous smell....exactly like oranges, very fruity!

After applying, I find my skin feels so refreshed and hydrated. Also what I love is that I can feel it protecting my skin all day without my skin looking shiny or feeling heavy. It seems to leave a really light barrier on my skin preventing it from feeling dry and tight later on in the day....I hate that tight dry feeling so much! No more of that with this though!

As well as being super hydrating and it also stimulates collagen thanks to an ingredient called palmitoyl oligopeptide.

I think this is a great all-rounder moisturiser while helping slow down the ageing process, especially for smokers and anyone with sensitive/dry skin, certainly during those harsh winter months it's a little miracle cream!

A 50ml tube will set you back approx €64. It may seem a lot to some but I promise it's worth it and as I always say your face is the most looked at thing by others and yourself so keeping it in good condition is money well spent!

Hope you guys enjoyed my review, I could go on and on about how much I love Image Skincare but I would be here all day lol! Let me know if you think this is something you'd like to try or if you have tried any of Image Skincare's other products?

Yaz xx

Monday's Moments - 19/05/14 - A Public Service Announcement

You might be wondering why this weeks Monday Blues header has come over all seasonal, well that's because this isn't you're regular Monday's Moments at all. It's a public service announcement to squeal at the fact that for the first time in many, many years I've been able to squirrel away enough sheckles for a short escape to the sun with the Gorgebags.

The Doctor has ordered a vitamin D hit to help with back bandiness and these lads have put up with more than they should have this past 8 months, helping out around the house and pretty much keeping me sane while I was poorly so they sure could do with a break too.

I'm leaving the site in more than capable hands with some of my favourite bloggers (and people) so do please pop by and see what's going on. Some of these ladies you will recognise immediately and others you should be reading and loving if you don't already so do pop by their sites and show 'em some love.
Isn't that what the blogging community is all about?

The posts are all crackers and I want to thank the gals sincerely for helping out.

Be sure to follow our escahpay over on Instagram (@ItsCherrySue). I'll try to update each day from Alcudia, if our hectic schedule of doing absolutely nothing for a week will allow.

I'll be bringing back sticks of rock and sunshine for everyone so please try not to break anything while I'm gone, yesh?

Catch ye on the flippity flop!

Cherry Pick of the Week: Sia - Chandelier

Brace yourselves, are you ready?

The only thing comparable to Sia's intensely powerful song, Chandelier, is the jaw dropping contemporary dance talent of 11 year old Maddie Ziegler choreographed by Ryan Heffington. Maddie sat down for chats with Stylecaster to share a little insight on her role in Chandelier

You might recognise Australian singer/songwriter/lyrical genius Sia's incredibly powerful voice from her 2011 stormer Titanium with David Guetta or a little further back to Taken for Granted in 2000.

I guarantee there'll be some hoarse Car-aoke contenders this Summer with Sia on the airwaves.

What do we make of Chandelier?

 Can you stop hitting replay?

Me neither.
