Upcoming Movies That I Can't Wait to See

This week the movie reviewing job goes over to Maaaaaa Cherry for today, so in it's place I'm going to give a list of three films that look AMAZING, and that I can't wait to see.

1. The Act of Killing

This film truly looks incredible, I first heard of it in another Vice spot about it that interviewed executive producers Werner Herzog and Errol Morris about director Joshua Oppenheimer coming to them and presenting the film. I expect The Act of Killing to be like the 'documentary' movie Cannibal Holocaust in the way that there's two ways people will look at it, 1 - as a schlocky gory grindhouse film, or 2 - as an insight into the world it portrays.

This film is the story of the 'hero' leader Anwar Congo of the Indonesian death squads of 1965-66 that were tasked to kill suspected communists, even down to just ordinary Chinese people. The story are told by Anwar himself, and in the trailer and Vice spot he said one of the most profound things I've ever heard, "War crimes are defined... By the winners".

I'll have a review of this up soon as Maaaaaa Cherry and myself are going to see it tomorrow in the amazing Lighthouse Cinema. If you have a couple of hours free, a STRONG stomach and definitely aren't a member PETA, check out Cannibal Holocaust, just watch it as a 'satire' of sorts on journalism, and definitely don't expect to finish watching it with any sort of (good, if any) feeling, and while you're on Vice's channel watch the interview with the Herzog and Morris, it's well worth the time.

The Act of Killing is out now.

2. The Wolf of Wall Street

This film looks AWESOME, it's Scorsese, it's DiCaprio, and just listen to that song on the trailer. While I (ashamedly, I'm trying to right this wrong A.S.A.P) have never seen Wall Street, this looks so slick. DiCaprio's next film after playing Jay Gatsby perfectly will be so cool, and if it's anything like The Ides of March in the way of it being a smart, thriller like movie then I will ADORE it. DiCaprio looks as cool as James Bond, Jonah Hill looks to be on top form, Matthew McConaughey looks like he has finally become the actor he could be and is continuing his actual good acting streak, and it has (the perfect) Emma Stone so there is NO WAY I'll miss this one.

I haven't much on this film, which is the way I like it, just that I just know I'll love this and it will become one of my favourites.

The Wolf of Wall Street is released on the 14th of November in Russia, 15th in the US and is simply COMING SOON to Ireland and the UK.

3. The Wolverine

IT'S FINALLY HERE. This film looks like a Wolverine movie should, he heals properly, his claws go 'shnick', he has Berserker Rage, and he says Bub!! I'm not going to lie, I'm DYING for this. I vaguely know the story of Wolverine as a Ronan through mentions of it and an episode of the Anime series that I haven't got around to finish watching. The gist of the trailer is he gets his healing factor stolen (kinda like when he was shot in the head and Rogue grabbed his leg in X2) and he wants it back. I'm aware that in the story he has other reasons for revenge that I won't spoil, but this seems to be the focus so far.

For some reason, a big thing in this film for me is that if his healing factor goes, his knuckles should always be open due to the fact his claws cut the skin every time (it's alluded to when he meets Rogue in the first X-Men movie). From the way his hands are bloody in the trailer when he gets off the bed spell good things for me. This looks like it's going for realism and to be true to the comic/anime, so I'm unbelievably excited.

And if I see Deadpool in anything but red and black or if he isn't taunting Wolverine, making jokes or breaking the fourth wall I'll!!.. I'll!!.. ..nerd rage on the internet..

The Wolverine is released on July 25th.

So there it is, a list of only three of my most exciting recent upcoming films (if I did the whole list I'd end up never seeing them due to writing about how excited about them I am), tell me in the comments, on Twitter or on Facebook about what films you're dying to see and I'll try see and review them,

I'll preface this weeks Jimmies by admitting that I've started taking both B6 and rhodiola again in the past few days so this post could very easily have been 45 gifs long.

Clinique's New Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ Versus Original Dramatically Different: A Comparison Post

There's something very comforting about the scent of the 100% fragrance free Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion and I reckon that's nostalgia on my part. My Mam has had this pale lemon cream in her skincare arsenal for as long as I can remember (most of its 45 years of existence I'd wager) and it's never let her down.

The fact that she's only one of millions that has loved it as part of the infamous 3-Step Skincare System and on its own (as I have for the past 12 months) speaks volumes about the reliable formulation of DDML, so if it ain't broke then why fix it after all this time?

New Clinique DDML+ creates moisture inside and a barrier outside - much akin to a water balloon appara

According to Janet Pardo, Clinique's Senior VP of Product Development this new launch is because 'The world has changed and skincare technology has changed'. Having spent over 6 years trialing and testing DDML+ with over 1,600 women of of different ethnicities, Clinique are confident that their reformulation was worth the wait.

The addition of Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin and Urea have meant that this new formulation does feel more moisturizing on the skin. The consistency in comparison to the original is slightly thicker but that hasn't taken from the easy absorption and thankfully it still doesn't leave a greasy residue, which is one of my favourite features of the original and was my main concern with this version.

The new 'Barrier Strengthening Complex' comes courtesy of cucumber and barley extract with sunflower seed cake and aims to create an invisible barrier to both hold in the new moisture and protect from the outside environment.

Clinique's DDML+ 125ml w pump: €42 (€40 sans pump)

Because I've been using DDML+ exclusively for the past couple of weeks, I've been reminded of just how bright it makes my visage after a week or so of use. I'm not talking shining beacon but just different enough so that I'll do a double take when checking the mirror. In fairness I like the original for the same reason but I can't recall the difference being this noticeable in such a short space of time before.

So to compare, the addition of the + has brought subtle changes to the tried and tested original, subtle but not dismiss-able  Good quality moisturizing ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Urea mean that when it comes time to replace your DDML your skins best option is to reach for the +.

Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ hit counters on July 12th.

Tell me, are you a Clinique skincare fan? Will you be picking the + up?

Things They Don't Tell You About Getting Older - Guest Post

Today I have a little treat for you lovely lot, the very funny Lauren from Birdy Begins has taken a mo to share with us some of the things they don't tell us about getting older - personally I thought it'd be all the sweets I could eat and no one ever giving out to me again - what a naive little gonk I was. Take it away Lauren!

So, the ‘this is puberty’ books give you the basics but don’t cover all the issues. There are some important facets of the maturing process that the books don’t cover so I feel I need to expose to these secrets to the world. For example:

Hair

I knew that people grew hair in bits that didn’t have hair before but somehow I thought that was a one-time thing that happened between (say) the ages of 13 and 15. But oh no, I was mistaken! What I didn’t realise (and I’d like to share with any who haven’t entered this reality yet) is that YOU KEEP GETTING HAIRIER!
Slightly horrifying, but true. My lovely husband, for example, had a few hairs wafting about the nip-ular area in his teens. Those hairs have spread across his chest and down to his tummy to make quite a pelt. He’s now mid 30s-ish. What’s he going to be like at 60? Will I be able to find my husband under the ball of fluff that he walks about in?

Nips

Sorry to get a bit rude, but talking about the nip-ular area, I didn’t realise that all women didn’t naturally grown thumb sized, sticky-out nipples like my mum’s. (How did I come to see my mum’s nipples? She was pretty casual about the clothing issue.). Actually those sticky-out nips are my fault (and my brother’s fault too, let’s share the blame fairly) as we got our early sustenance.  Fair enough.

Spots

Now here’s a really depressing one. Like hair growth, I assumed spots were a teenage phase that we all grew out of. Not so! It’s quite possible to have wrinkles, grey hair and spots. A fact I prove reasonably regularly. The only good thing is that with age comes a bit more skill in washing, anointing and covering up said spots so they’re less obvious (we fondly hope).
So, what about you – are you enjoying these delightful signs of aging or have you been lucky? Anything else you didn’t realise about aging when you were an impressionable teen?

Do please show this hilarious lady some love, tell us in a comment - what were you never told about growing older? Be sure head on over to Lauren's site or catch her on Twitter, where she makes me laugh pretty much daily. Thanks so much Lauren!

If you've an idea for a guest post and think you might like some CherrySue love linkage why not drop me a line and we'll chat, ja?

Monday's Moments: 15/07/13

Good morning, Monday, you certainly snuck up on me this week. In what was one of the most whirlwind, exciting and downright incredible weeks I've had so far, I'm hard pressed to pick just five Moments that stand above the rest. But I'll try:

1. Team Smashbox Ireland, Reporting for Duty

Last week saw one of the most amazing opportunities come my way and when I say I appreciated it more than any other so far, the words just don't do it justice.

On Tuesday, Smashbox flew Emma of Fluff & Fripperies, Laura Bermingham of TV3, Karen of Lovelygirliebits and little ol' me to London town to meet with their Global Pro Lead Makeup Artist and all round seriously cool chick, Lori Taylor.

I'll have the full low down on exactly what went on this week, including a sneak peek at what's new for AW13, one of the nicest hotels & comfiest beds I've ever experienced and the so hip that it hurts restaurant that played host to our night of chats and LOLs. But for now I'm still shaking my head, partly in gratitude to the spot on Smashbox team, mostly in very fond memories of the whirlwind trip.

2. There's No Such Thing As...

Once we'd arrived back in Dublin on Wednesday there was only time for a quick shower and I was back into town for a couple of meetings. The Sis was coming up to meet me for that evening as Frillseeker was launching but got a very nice phonecall on the train.

Gary from Red Torch Ginger on Andrew St called to say she'd won lunch in their fab Thai restaurant and bar. The food was delicious (and excellent value even if we were paying) but the cocktails excelled. It was torture limiting ourselves to just a couple but we will certainly be back! It was a cracking stroke of luck to win and set us up perfectly for the evening.

3. Get Ready for the Launch!

Wednesday evening saw anyone who's anyone (and that's everyone!) descend upon the Vintage Cocktail Club in Crown Alley to help launch, sing hallelujahs and generally show a helluva lot of love to Kirsie McDermott on her return to the Blogosphere with Frillseeker.ie.

The three floors were crammed, wall to wall and it was standing room only but the beer was flowing and the atmosphere electric. I met people I've been chatting online with for years and some very cool ladies that read this here blog (*waves*) but I never get to chat to. It. Was. Awesome. That's just a testament to the type of gal that Kirstie is, I'm just hoping she remembers us when she's been driven around in the Pope Mobile giving us the Queen's wave!

4. The Nicest Natalie EVAR!

Something very, very lovely happened at that Frillseeker launch, possibly the loveliest thing that's happened to me to date. While chatting anyone and everyone, a gorgeous Gal named Natalie approached us (Karen, Emma & I). Shaking slightly she explained that she read all of our blogs and her Mam insisted that she come say Hi.

All I can say is Thank you hugely Natalie's Mam and Thank You Natalie!! It's the most surreal feeling to have someone say they love your work but to have such a genuinely gorgeous girl tell all three of us that she reads and enjoys our ramblings?! I haven't stopped smiling like a loon since, I'm smiling now typing this. Natalie, in a week smothered in Awesomesauce, you're the cherry on top, truly!

5. Sweet 16

And finally, yesterday, Bastille Day saw this hunk of actual junk (AKA the youngest Gorgebag) turn 16. SIXTEEN YEARS OF AGE.

I can't quite verbalise how proud/shocked/old that makes me feel but the thought that I've gotten this little charmer to mid teens and still in possession of all his limbs and all my nerves makes me a very happy Momma indeed. Happy Birthday, Chicken Chops, you'll always be my baby boy. *sniffles*

C'est ca, five incredibly good Moments that have meant I haven't had a minute to think about a Monday Blue. As Lori Taylor herself says 'My life don't suck right now'.

Tell me, what's the Happy Haps with you this week? What's making you smile and keeping you sane? I'd love to know...
