A Quiet Place is set in the very near future and features one of the last surviving families, following the arrival of unknown, terrifying creatures that use sound to hunt and annihilate instantly. Predominantly quiet, often silent, you never know when the jumps are coming but, BOY are they coming!
Any Good?
Eh, yeah!
Probably the most intense cinematic experience I've had to date, it's incredibly clever, intensely frightening and unlike anything you've seen before.
I decided to pop in on opening night, before the hype hit, thinking it'd be an enjoyable way to pass an hour or two and fan my love for John Krasinski. I chewed off one nail extension, loosened the arm rest, peed a little and needed a brief lie down after but as soon as I left the cinema ( which felt like being spat out) I wanted to see it again. It's literally an emotional roller coaster but the very best kind.
There was one scene, in complete silence when there was a collective audience murmuring of 'Oh fucken hell' - we were in it together. From the first scenes to the final shot, A Quiet Place doesn't let up.
Essentially a story based on the lengths we go to to protect our children in a hugely messed up world, it plays on your every fear brilliantly. There's no telling what's coming next because neither we or they know.
I'm not only urging you to see this movie as soon as possible but to see it in the cinema for the full experience. If jump scares are your thing, you will adore it, if they're not, you may need a pace maker in the aftermath but still, your cardiologist will thank you for the work.
Adrenaline pumping, heart racing, stingy finger brilliance, literally my only issue was that it wasn't set on Schrute Farm but if this is the calibre of Krasinski's work I cannot WAIT to see more (after I watch this again).
