MY Top 4 Movie Soundtracks!

After re-watching Scott Pilgrim vs. The World for the millionth time this week I ended up re-adding the soundtrack to my iPod - an amazing decision that has led me to decide my favs to add to said iPod so here is the list! (After much arguing with Maaa, I had to make this a 4 film list instead of 3, she's the weirdo)

4. Drive

Come on, you saw this coming. Hearing this for the first time blew my mind, and the movie spawned one of my favourite games of all time which has a (superior) Electronic-Pop soundtrack - Hotline Miami.

3. Akira

The soundwork on this film sets it apart from ANY movie - animated or not. Explosions are couch-shakingly loud and gunshots deafening, it's just sublime. The soundtrack is truly epic - I'm not one for those types of soundtrack but it melds so many different types of music together seamlessly in just one song. Above is the first track, and while not one of the described above it's the perfect song to drive bikes around Neo-Tokyo and be introduced into this masterpiece of film.

2. Jersey Boys (2014)

What can I say, I'm a sucker for the mafia style music of the 50's-60's.. This film has the catchiest damn songs I've ever heard, all day I've had this stupid Sherry on repeat NON-STOP in my head and I LOVE IT! Not only are the songs catchy, but the Can't Take My Eyes Off You scene in the movie is easily in my top 3 of all time, watch it already!!

1. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Listen, just because this is my favourite movie, comic-book series and I'm told I look like Scott DOES NOT mean I'm biased at all. This soundtrack was mostly composed, written and performed by the one and only Beck and it's quality shows. The diversity is HUGE, from the bass heavy Sex Bob-Omb to the electronica Katayanagi Twins this film has at least one song that could appeal to any music genre fan. It also introduced me to the AWESOME Canadian band Metric, the real world equivalent of in-series Clash at Demonhead, and they rock HARD.

Jersey Boys - Movie Review

  Who's in it?

 and

What's it about?

Jersey Boys is the story of how 3 criminal minors met a brilliant song writer and went from being safe-stealing messers to the most popular band pre-Beatles in America.

Any Good?

I liked this, I don't know if it was the AMAZING soundtrack or the Joysey charm the accents brought, even with the ridiculously long 2 hours and 14 minutes run length filled with fluff. Even with an easy hour of pure filler the main story can hold up if you pay close enough attention, with great extra characters like Joseph Russo as the truly funny Joe Pesci.

The fourth-wall breaking talking to the camera really shined at times, but I did notice that not once did Frankie himself do it until the final scenes, more the other characters for him and it reminded me a lot of Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad's later seasons if you see what I mean.

The acting was pretty solid to say the least, Vincent Piazza as the total D-Bag of the film was genuinely aggravating, which can be huge props for a role like that. I liked Erich Bergen in this, he was the best of the entire band and I really did care and root for him whenever he was in an argument.

Christopher Walken was Christopher Walken in terms of his role of mafia man Gyp, but there's one scene where he goes to see Frankie sing and his acting is out of this world, incredible for the entire duration.

I've said it and I'll say it again, I liked this. It had the early rock sound that just hasn't been replicated since The Beatles and it sounded great. One thing I just realised is that this movie is an actual musical due to the amount of songs featured, but it's done so well it just feels like the songs are meant to be there each time. Not bad Clint/Frankie/Bobby et al, not bad at all.

Clint Eastwood to Direct Screen Adaptation of Hit Musical Jersey Boys!

ALL MORNING I've been told to watch this trailer by my Mother - I was literally woken up to 'Clint Eastwood is directing a Jersey Boys movie!'.

Now I've never seen the Broadway show, but it certainly is a favourite with the family as you can see with Mother Dearest nearly having a aneurysm over it. Clint Eastwood is directing and with Grand Torino being the last of the films he directed that I have seen and with one of my favourite actors in Christopher Walken having a main part I'm intrigued by the film myself.

There's a Scorsese feel to production with travelling shots, speaking to camera and overall narrative. Give the trailer a watch and let us know if you're excited to see it too.

It releases in the US on June 22nd - no word on the Irish release date but it should be soon after.
