Beauty Advent Calenders - The Best of 2013

Personally I'm a newbie to advent calendars that don't involve me popping  a Dairy Milk stocking into my mouth before porridge of a December morning but the burgeoning beauty advent calendar is slowly converting me. I say slowly as I've yet to part with my cold hard sponds for one yet but 2013 is looking like the year that that just might happen.

Mariah Carey for OPI - Liquid Sand Collection with Swatches

Texture is the way to go with nail collections of late and the brand new Mariah Carey for OPI collection of Liquid Sands is no different. Drying to a matte finish with some serious sparkle, these colours are very wearable for an altogether different mani.

How about some swatches, eh?

Get Your Number dries to a bright blue matte that's chock full of blue glitter.

Can't Let Go is the purple of the pack, the purple glitter is more subtle here as it's exactly the same shade as the polish.

The Impossible is a firey red/pink on the nail. Again the glitter is more subtle but when the light catches it, it's mesmerising. Probably my favourite of the bunch.

Stay the Night is the most unusual of this collection, red glitter sitting in a black jelly polish that dries to matte volcanic ash looking loveliness. This is the most wearable of the lot.

Have you tried any of the liquid sand polishes yet? This Limited Edition Mariah Carey collection is available on Cloud 10 Beauty right now, there's seven colours available for €10.50 each.

NOTD - Unfor-Greta-Bly Blue - OPI

Despite ducking the Monday Blues my nails are sporting the colour with gusto today. Unfor-Greta-Bly Blue is from OPI's new Germany collection and is no less than a stunner.

Über shiny (there's no top coat in either pic) and with a formulation that applies like a dream, this blue is a must have for all polish lovers. It's right on trend for A/W as I mentioned over on Beaut.ie today  and if you don't snap it up soon, I can see it being one of the most sought after and hard to get colours from this collection.

The Germany collection is one of the best that OPI have released and you'll get them, if you're quick, over on Cloud10Beauty.com for €10.50 a pop.

Are you loving any colours from the collection?

New From Cloud 10 Beauty : Paese Polishes & Nail Care

Paese (pronounced 'Pa'ese') Cosmetics have been slowly making themselves known in the Irish beauty market. The award winning Polish brand has a full range of cosmetics such as primers, foundations, lip products and nail care at ridiculously affordable prices and if their polishes are anything to go by, I'm looking forward to trying more.

Paese Polishes in 131 & 135 - €3 a piece

The two polishes that I was sent to have a play with a 131, a rich oxblood red and 135 a pastel mauve. Only two of a possible 16, these polishes are pretty decent for €3. Both colours definitely need two coats but dry quickly and to a high shine (no top coat used above). I'm on two days now with no chips, that's fairly good going for a budget brand, considering some of high end offerings chip within the same day.

My only niggle with these polishes is the bottles, the brush is grand, does the trick but the lids seem to be ill fitting. Don't get me wrong, your polish is safe as houses inside and it's little I've to be complaining about at €3 a bottle but I do think it's something the brand could look at.

Paese One Touch Polish Remover - €3.50

Making a recent Cloud 10 order, I spotted this nifty feller too, for €3.50 and with the amount of polish I remove weekly I thought I'd give him a bash. Reminiscent of salon removers with its one touch system, Paese Polish remover is a cinch to use. One pump is actually enough and this much remover will clear a full nail in a couple of swipes.

This remover contains acetone, so, while I wouldn't recommend it for everyday use as it would dry your nails, when in a rush - this is poifect!

I've also been sent some of the nail care treatments from the brand, which I am testing at the mo but results will be up as soon as I have them.

Check out Cloud10Beauty.com for more from the Paese range or to pick yourself up some of these cheeky polishes. At this price for good quality products there's no guilt involved.

The Brains Behind your Favourite Beauty Sites - Cloud 10 Beauty

Following on from the skinny on SupernailIreland.com last week, we have the gorgeous Blanaid, the brains (and surrious beauty) behind one of my personal favourite Beauty Sites, Cloud 10 Beauty. That could be because they take Laser, they have lightening fast delivery speeds, kick ass samples with every purchase or just because Blanaid is ridiculously lovely and one of the most helpful businesswomen I've had the pleasure of dealing with. Read on and decide for yourself.

Again we have 5 of the most in-depth questions Paxman would be proud of and also a looksee at the Lady herself (is it just me suffering from serious hair envy?)... Take it away, Blanaid!

1. What inspired you to set up your site?

I was working within the beauty industry when I came up with the concept for Cloud 10 Beauty. While working with various brands in department stores and smaller retail outlets I noticed that there was a significant gap between the shopping experience available online and in-store for beauty products. I seen this as an opportunity to use technology to help bridge this gap and offer a better online shopping experience.

In store you can try products before you buy but rarely can you get that kind of experience online. Cloud 10 Beauty offers free testers of products like foundation which are notoriously difficult to choose so you can try the colour in the comfort of your own home before you buy.

When shopping in-store you also rarely shop alone so we wanted to create a website where shoppers can freely interact with each other and with us to get the help and assistance they need. On every product page the customer can read product reviews and also ask questions about the product. Clicking on the link from a product review brings you to the reviewers profile page where you can ask the reviewer any further questions you might have. You can also create your own profile page where you can promote your facebook or twitter page and also share your favourite brands, products and videos. In Share on Cloud 10 customers can also ask general beauty related questions in Chat, watch great tutorials in Watch or read the latest news on our Blog.

We wanted to create an enjoyable experience that is beyond a mere transaction. With our great Beauty Points scheme you can earn points not just by buying fabulous beauty products but also by reviewing products, signing up to receive our newsletter and by inviting your friends to join. Or even just by simply sharing the products you love with your friends on Facebook.

From the moment you arrive on Cloud 10, until your products are delivered to your door with your chosen samples, we aim to create a simple and fun online shopping experience for beauty that cannot be found elsewhere.

2. How long have you been beautifying the country?

Cloud 10 Beauty officially launched in October 2011 so we are a relatively young and new beauty website. We have been overwhelmed and delighted by the positive response since we launched and are really looking forward to celebrating our first birthday.

3. What’s your favourite part of the job?

Honestly, my favourite part of the job is choosing the new brands for our site! I love when a new brand arrives to our offices. Before deciding on any new brand for Cloud 10, we test the key products in the range but there is always still great excitement when the complete shipment arrives. I also love when we receive feedback from customers. We have received so many fabulous emails and facebook/twitter comments from customers and they really do put a smile on my face. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.

4. What’s the one thing about your job that people might not know?

I share an office with Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn! Well with their pictures :)

5. If you could choose just one product to recommend to a friend – what would that be?

Of the established cult products on our site the Sigma F80 is hard to beat. However my personal favourite product at the moment is Nuxe Dry Body Oil. It is so moisturizing and leaves a lovely sheen on your skin. At this time of year, the scent always reminds me of summer.

Really interesting, right? Thanks so much for sharing, B!

If you're still not in love with this girl or her work (seriously?), head on over to Cloud10, there's a special deal on REN at the moment with free gift flying about the place or check out their Facebook page, where there's a Sigma Premium Travel Kit going abeg.

Next week we have the web hostess with the mostess, Steph from BeautyEmporium.ie, giving us a little peek behind the revamped scenes of greatness! Don't miss that whate'er you do.

Squeezey Does It - Lash Control Mascara

Behold a new and unique contender in the lash batter market. A novel idea, patented to save you product, time, grubby mitts and mascara filled tissues. A squeezable mascara tube, no less. Genius.

Promising to banish raccoon eyes and stay in place until you remove it with warm water, I was intrigued to test this out.

Simply squeeze the rubber insert as you pull the wand for your desired amount of product.

A firm grip will mean very little product on the brush (which is way up the better end of mascara brush offerings) to create a natural lash look.

And a looser hold will mean mucho mascara to work with for a more dramatic look.

Must say, I like this. A lot. The idea, at first, seemed a little gimmicky to me but I've been trialling this for a week now and my lashes have held their look and lasted all day, every time.

It does have a tendency toward flaky into the evening but all in all it's a good wear. I'm not so sure about the removal with warm water though, any mascara that can stay put all day will need something a little more than uisce for removal, again, I'm not complaining but it's worth noting.

There are 3 variations of this mascara in Lash Control's line up, two black and one clear, both black offerings are available over on the wonderful Cloud10Beauty.com for €20 each, who very kindly supplied this sample for my perusal.

What say we? Intriguez vous?
