Zooey Deschanel's Golden Globe Nails 2014 - Daisies

The Golden Globes, for all their hilarity, complementing sparkle and HOT Mommas to be was sadly lacking in the nail department and that makes the nail art nut in me vay sad indeed. Never one to disappoint when it comes to talon talent though, Zooey Deschanel sported these golden daisy lovelies by nail artist to the stars @tombachik. 

My plan was to recreate several looks from the night but hey, you can do vampy shades to ballerina mutes as well as anyone so, other than Kerry Washington's beautiful half moon mani here I thought I'd give Zooey's nails a shot. 

Along with some stick on pearls (stuck on with clear varnish) Colours used are:

• China Glaze 5 Golden Rings
• Kiss White Nail Art Paint

For my part I'm really not a fan of the off kilter tip, what do you think of it? 

Were I to recreate for myself, which I very well might do this Summer, I'll be using a standard French tip I reckon.

Monday's Moments - 13/01/14

Hey All, how are we this morning? How are we holding up with the New Years Resolutions or will we just not talk about 'em? 

It's been a pretty hectic week, most of which I've spent at home as per uje but there's still been Moments to brighten the Monday Blues as there always are. Wanna see them?

1. Jammy GITs

I mentioned before the Christmas break that Aaron, AKA, the Eldest Gorgebag had been swept up by a very savvy site to be their new Movie Contrib. Now that The Gentleman in Training (thegit.ie) is live and kicking, I can share it with you. 

The brainchild of CollegeTimes.ie, this iteration is for the savvy young gents amongst us with a bit of noose and even more ambition so I can see why Aar is a great fit (yep I'm totally biased). His first few reviews have been published already and I guess I should be flattered that they've also adopted my movie review format for all of their reviews - like I say, these guys have taste. Chuffed for all involved. 

2. I Can Do a Tumble

I am no doubt showing my age in that this is a Moment for me but, Sweet Baby J, we got a new dryer! This means no more falling to my knees and cursing the heavens when it rains - no more lugging clothes in and out (or, more realistically, guilting the lads into doing it) but our lives have been improved largely by this big white box. Yay us!

3. A Good Vet Could've Saved Her

I can't even look at this pic without my mouth watering again! After The Wolf on Wall St screening with Aaron on Wed we were famished (it's that good) and Aar's only request was to try Bunsen on Wexford St. 

There are only 4 burgers on the menu, this is the double cheese and I'm not exaggerating when I say we were up to our elbows in this meat messiah. So much so that the entire walk back to Stephen's Green was spent JUST talking about the burgers we'd just demolished. I didn't eat for 2 days afterward but I urge you, get thee to Bunsen - Post Haste!

4. Boo by Name and BOO by Nature

See this moggy? She's aged me approximately 42 years so far but never so much as she has in the past week. On Tuesday night I had an Insidious movie fest with Adam up in my room (all toasty like). Great films btw, especially when you watch them back to back. 

I'm not normally a scaredy cat (pun intended) but a few hours after settling down to sleep, at about 5am, THIS little wagon leapt onto my chest without warning! I thought it was that scaldy black widow coming for me! I grew 6 grey hairs that morning. True story. 

5. Spaceman, I Always Wanted You 

to go into Space, Man!

You'd have to be living under a pretty large rock not to know who Chris Hadfield is and the gripping accessibility he gave us into life aboard the International Space Station last year, bringing social media where no man had ever brought it before. 

We had the very great pleasure to listen to Col. Hadfield at last weeks LayaPendulum Business Summit describe in gripping detail exactly what it was like to live outside our atmosphere and the life perspective it gave him as he gazed down on us spinning past. It was truly humbling and inspiring to listen to his story told with such passion and I'd recommend legging it along to listen if ever you get the chance.

How was the weekend then? A blur just like mine? I can never tell if it goes quicker when I'm busy or when I'm sitting, slackjawed looking at a screen or two.

Cherry Pick of the Week: Jason Derulo - Trumpets

Jason Derulo's can be very hit and miss, I even deliberated about including Trumpets as this weeks Pick but I only had to listen to the catchy mo' fo' one more time to make up my mind. 

Yes, the lyrics are atrocious, yes the video is very weird but LOOK at that puppeh at 0.58. That and I defy you not to have the trumpety hook stuck in your earhole for days after listening. 

Well played, Jason De Loo Roll, well played indeed. 

Delivery Man - Movie Review

Who's in it? 

Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt, Cobie Smulders, Simon Delaney & Jack Reynor

What's it About? 

Vince Vaughan plays a forty-something slacker dodging a debt to the mob and pretty much all responsibility for everything else in his life. Ditched by his newly pregnant girlfriend he comes home to the news that a mix up at the sperm bank twenty years prior has resulted in his copious 'donations' being used for hundreds of women and resulting in 533 children - 142 of whom are now suing to reveal his identity. 

Ooh look the original movie Starbuck is on Netflix for free!

Any Good? 

I'm always a little dubious about Hollywood remakes, French thriller Anything for Her was annihilated in Three Days Later and 2010's Let Me In was never going to reach the coat tails of Swedish original Let the Right One In but when the same writer and director of a movie (Ken Scott) personally remakes his own film Starbuck just two years later then it's side-eyes all 'round. 

For my part though, I like Vince Vaughan (Wozniak) and that's pretty much a prerequisite going into Delivery Man as there are very few scenes in which his broad shoulders don't take centre stage. Fans of his quick talking, irreverent style of wit might be a little disappointed that there is only brief glances at real humour here, though laugh out loud when they appear.

To its credit though as a competent dramedy with humour, heart and only brief glimpses of schmaltz, Delivery Man holds its own. Some relationships could have benefited greatly from a little more fleshing out and Cobie Smulders is woejussly underused but her character serves to show the more responsible side to Wozniak's underachieving attitude. 

Wozniak's mission to become a guardian angel of sorts to one child at a time though is where the movies real (if slightly far fetched) strength lies. Chances are a drug addiction won't be suddenly cured by getting a job in retail in one such instance but we're talking about a movie about a man with 533 children here - it was never meant to be believable. 

There's one behind us right now, isn't there?

For those not familiar with the original movie, this will be a treat. Touching on identity issues, drug abuse, disability, acceptance, feelings of involuntary fatherly love and a sudden sense of protectiveness, this flick does so with heart, peppered with dry wit and humour so that it never weighs itself down. 

For all his faults Wozniak is a likeable oaf, with the majority of his offspring seeming to have inherited that trait. I can't help but feel that Ken Scott missed a trick in not turning Starbuck into a TV series instead, with Wozniak helping one child per episode - I would've watched that but we got this instead. While it won't win any awards or even be that memorable in six months time, if you're looking for a pleasant 100 mins of feel good film reel this flick delivers.
