The Last Witch Hunter - Movie Review!

Who's In It?

 and

What's It About?

A great evil is coming back to the world and it is up to immortal witch hunter Kaulder to hunt it down and stop it.

Any Good?

The film opens in an amazing sequence of Kaulder's past; it shows how as a viking he and his crew raided a witches lair. The CGI and character clothes are fantastic, and the scenery is fantastic. This opening is brilliant, with everything you'd want from a fantasy film, but the rest is like a different film 70% of the time.

In the future the film is set in New York, so the scenery is a lot less magical but some of the shots keep the gorgeous colours and special effects; and these scenes are some of the best in the film. We saw it in 2D, but I'd have liked to see how some scenes are in 3D.

The acting was more action movie than fantasy as was the script, which sadly seemed to take itself wayyy to seriously and even the jokes fall flat. The one really jarring thing was the soundtrack, there was something about it that was so distant from the magic scenes that were happening.

I was so excited for this, and it was a letdown for a reason I can't really put my finger on. It reminded me a bit of Blade at the start, but it doesn't have the cheesiness or jokes that stopped Blade taking itself too serious. While it is a bad film, it's a good bad film that I enjoyed, and Kaulder's sword is BADASS.
