Cherry Pick of the Week ~ Rimmel #Insta Fix & Matte Powder!

Cherry Pick of the Week this time out is a budget translucent powder that works as effectively as a product five times its price. The #Insta range from Rimmel haven't been making huge waves online, to the point that until I picked this up in Boots a fortnight ago I didn't even know there was a #Insta range from Rimmel, but this lightly scented mattifying dream has piqued my interest in trying the rest.

I know, I know, a beauty post, who'da thunk it? It's only when I look back at the past couple of weeks posts that I realise they've been few and far between of late. Despite my sneak peeks at upcoming products over on Instagram and slapping the keyboard as the Style & Beauty Blogger for the Dublin City Guide, poor aul CherrySue le Blog has been losing out. Fear not though, I'm on it! 

In that vein, how about a look at the products that've been tickling my beauty pickle more than any other this past month? Excellent, let's do this: 

1. Kérastase Nectar Thermique: 

€20.28 Here

I've been rocking the Keratin Complex treatment from Queen in Aungier St this past few weeks so normal shampoos and conditioners have been given the heave ho in favour of sulphate free alternatives. Because of that, styling wise, I haven't needed a whole lot of product but after each and every wash I've been loving this leave in treatment from Kérastase. 

This ultra nourishing cream is applied to towel dried hair and not only cuts my blow dry time in half but leaves my locks soft and shiny too. The Royal Jelly Extract works to smooth down flyaways without ever feeling weighted or greasy. Of all the Kérastase loveliness I've tried, this Nectar is by far my fave. 

2. Essie Take It Outside: 

€9 Here

I've been recommending Essie's Take It Outside to all that will listen for the past month or more. Topping my favourite Autumnal Nails post just last week, I can't say enough good things about this flattering greige - though I try. 

If you're looking for a polish that you're likely to remove only to apply again then Take It Outside should be top of your list. That and Debenhams are selling the entire line for just €9 right now. Get. On. It!

3. Estée Lauder - Revitalizing Supreme CC Cream: €55 Here

One reason Estée Lauder will consistently top my favourite brand list is consistency in both quality and performance. At first glance €55 seems slightly spendy for a CC Cream but even during application you can feel the difference between this and cheaper counterparts. This Supreme CC Cream leaves the tube as a greyish cream but transforms on the skin with the aid of micropigments. 

Lovers of full coverage bases won't find this is enough and I must admit the SPF 10 is almost too negligible to mention but BUT my skin has never liked a base as much as it has this. Luminous and soft, it feels as though my skin has light reflecting properties with none of the sparkle. Yes, it's €55 but I'll gladly spend that again once I'm through with this one. Gladly.

4. Bourjois - 1 Seconde Volume Ultra Black: 

€12.99 Here

The original Volume 1 Seconde was a stand out mascara for me this year, so I was thrilled to see an Ultra Black iteration make its way to our shelves. The patented brush is the same, one of my most loved shapes, with spherical bristles in among the straight sweeping ones to cover every last lash with ease.

While I didn't find this newer version 'ultra' black, I do prefer it to its predecessor in terms of longevity. Again Bourjois prove they can hold their own with high end beauty heavy weights. I've reached for this tube more than any other in the past month because I know it will just work. You can't always say that with mascara.

5. Charlotte Tilbury - Filmstar Bronze & Glow: 

€65 Here

Had you told me a couple of months back that I'd be contouring daily and feeling slightly naked without, I'd have scoffed in your face. SCOFFED. But then came Charlotte's Filmstar Bronze & Glow. I can't emote with sufficient intensity your need to try this palette. 

Forget Lion King scary contour lines and Kim K attempts at shading warpaint, this, THIS is what will give you that effortless contoured look with just a couple of sweeps. The matte Sculpt shade is my perfect shading colour and the champagne Highlight is the buildable highlighter of my dreams. Truly, I've worn the CC cream above, this and the Bourjois mascara and been told I've never looked better. It. Is. Love.

6. B. Balenciaga: 

€61 Here

B. Balenciaga is  Alexander Wang's first scent for the French fashion house & nothing like I had expected. A clean green scent grounded with dark wood, it smells like I imagine the rainforest does after a downpour. Absolutely gorgeous. 

I've been guarding closely my sneak preview sample but the urge to share the scent when people ask what I'm wearing is more than I can bear and I always end up giving them a spritz. THIS is why B. is smack bang top of my Christmas wishlist thusfar. Seek it out and spray it for yourself, I defy you not to fall in love. 

7. Liz Earle - Limited Edition Cleanse & Polish: €23.50 Here

I have made no secret of my love for Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish over the years - you can see my full review here. Always a sucker for a limited edition, it was the very same night that I met Liz Earle MBE herself (I KNOW!) that I eagerly opened this Sweet Orange & Mint version to put it to the test. 

That was last month, I've been using this cleanser every other night since. While the performance of this unctuous cleanser is just as luxurious and comforting as its standard counterparts, it's the scent that truly sets this one apart. Bright and zesty, I truly own no cleansers with quite the same scent and have looked forward to using it every single time. 

8. Tiger - Phone Charger: 

€9 In Store Only 

I don't normally recommend products that you can't easily get your own mitts on but were I to tell you that this €9 charger from walkaround mecca, Tiger is the fastest I've ever used would that sway you to make the trip? 

As is the case with most people these days, my phone is now an extension to my arm and never put down - unless I'm in the office of course - ahem. This means, more often than not, I'm scrambling to have it recharged before I head into town and start my Spotify accompanied trek home. 

This charger gives me 100% in less than 30 mins, without overheating or losing charge once I unplug. The slightly odd thing is, it's only when it's plugged into the wall but what matter? 100% in under half an hour that holds a charge longer than usbs 3 times its price. It's like a little Lotto win. Only better. 

9. Rimmel Provocalips: £6.99 Here

Another product I've raved about ad infinitum is Rimmel's newest lip laquer, Provocalips. Available in 11 shades of vibrancy, there is no lip product on the market today that will give you the longevity these bad boys do.

But a word of warning - though saturated in colour and a cinch to wear, you should make sure your lips are in top condition before applying. Not moisturised but prepped (I give mine a little scrub with my toothbrush when brushing my teeth). A second word of warning - there is zero room for error here, as the lacquer STAINS. Use a steady hand and go slow for instant, dramatic colour. All in all if you're looking for unparalleled wear time in a lippie, you're looking for Provocalips.

Things I'm Trialling ft Bourjois, The Body Shop, Eau De Gaga, Models Co, Rimmel & Shu Uemura

Did you miss us last week? My Inbox says HELL YES so apologies for that. Imma juggling 2 jobs, a full time blog and raising a family here peeps - I know you get this, I know I don't have to explain but I always feel the guilt - it's a Mammy thing. 

BUT we're not here for apologies, we're here to see how these new beauts perform, right? Right!

1. Model Co More Brows: €12 Here

A tiny little contender to the Benefit Gimme Brow crown, Model Co's More Brows is a more affordable purch at half the price. Packaging is identical and the premise too, a coloured fibre/gel hybrid that sticks to both hair and skin giving the illusion of thicker brows. 

It's instant, quick drying and will have your brows sorted with zero effort at all. I won't be giving up my Gimme Brow any time soon, because frankly it's better quality, but as a more affordable offering, More Brows is a definite winner. 

2. Rimmel Provocalips: £6.99 Here

The edgier sister of Rimmel Apocalips , these 7 new shades take long wear to the next level. Double ended, you apply the highly pigmented lacquer first and allow to dry. Next up is the clear gloss to add high shine and to refresh your look through the day. I don't think I've ever owned/used a product that lasts as long as Provocalips does. I applied Kiss Fatal at 10am, promptly forgot about it (they're weightless on the lip) and it was only at lunchtime, 1.15, when a colleague asked what I was wearing, that I remembered I was wearing anything at all. It still looked brand new.

All in all if you're looking for unparalleled wear time in a lippie, you're looking for Provocalips. 
3. Bourjois Smoky Stories Palettes: €11 Here

Part of the A/W Bourjois launch, these Smoky Stories palettes were the one product I was itching for from the French beauty brand. They haven't disappointed. The creamy velvet texture makes the smokey eye of your choice child's play. The multi faceted glitter shades in each palette have to be used to be fully appreciated and remind me instantly of the 'Pop' shades in Charlotte Tilbury's luxury quads (though they're softer). 

Each shade is buildable, effortlessly blendable and the glitter, as a showstopping highlight, brings your look to the next level. Bourjois have long been a favourite for their shadow formulation and I'd happily place these Smoky palettes alongside some of my high end purchases 4 and 5 times their price. Get to Boots - Bring your swatching fingers!

4. Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Ultra Black: €12.98 Here

5. Shu Uemura Color Lustre: Starts €24.96 Here

I'm genuinely very lucky in that I get to try high end products that I couldn't afford to buy in another life. Well I could afford them but I couldn't also afford to eat. This new range from Shu Uemura, though spendy, gives me the fear in that Imma want to buy it again and again and again. 

The first haircare line proven to replenish hairs natural varnish, restructure the surface and prevent colour fade, if you spend a lot on your colour, this really is an investment worth making. Infused with Musk Rose Oil and Goji Berry Extract, the Color Lustre line is simply a beautiful shampoo to use. I'm down to washing twice a week now and even so, my blonde locks seem brighter, less brassy and smoother than before. I'll definitely be repurchasing. 


6. The Body Shop Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate: €28.50 Here

Enriched with plant stem cells, these Drops of Youth promise to reduce eye bags, encourage cell renewal and help eyes appear less tired. When I was going through my post at 1 am last week and these popped out, it was as though a manna from heaven. 

While I haven't had them long enough to show any lasting effect, the one pump delivery and the cool metallic roller ball applicator are the most impressive packaging I've used from an eye product. Instantly cooling and with a noticeable reduction in puffiness from the first couple of uses, I'll be keeping these drops close to hand for my burny, burny eyeballs and will update the post when we've become better acquainted. 

7. Eau De Gaga: €26 Here

I have a troubled relationship with celebrity fragrances, I'll be the first to admit it. Most I'm happy to let pass on by, though to this day I hold Halle Berry's Closer as one of my top five scents. (David Beckham's offerings are surprisingly swish too). I wasn't hugely enthused when I learned of Mzz Gaga's second foray into the olfactory world as her Lady Gaga Fame EDT really didn't wow me when it hit counters last year. Eau de Gaga is different. 

A more complex scent than its sugary sweet precursor, this unisex fragrance brings a whole lot more bang for your buck. The floral note here is woody but almost drowned entirely by bright lime. The white violet heart on a leather base will no doubt draw comparisons to Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather but still, I just couldn't make it my own. 

On paper it's everything I love in a fragrance, masculine and sensual with a kick of something bright but ultimately it's just not for me. The finished product belies it's budget price tag and I can see this being hugely popular come gift giving season. I've since payed it forward to Aaron's gal pal and she is completely smitten. Sinéad of Viva Adonis fame is also a ha-YOOGE fan, check her thoughts here & maybe get to a counter & tell me which side you land on. Eau de Gaga, like the woman herself, is a divider of opinion. That's not always a bad thing.

May Favourites 2014 ft Argan 5+, Beverly Hills Formula, Etsy, Geox, L'Occitane, Pantene, Nuxe, Rimmel, Shiseido & Stila

I'll spare you the 'How is it June?!' intro, I'm in a generous mood (I'm thinking it, you're thinking it but I'm sparing you). The month of May 2014 was a mixed bag, beauty wise but as ever there were silver linings to be had. Judging by some of the products I'm using as I type this post up, June has already more than made up for it. I digress, you came here for Favourites and Favourites you shall have!

1. Rimmel Fancy a Dip Nail Polish: £2.99 here (On 3 for 2 too!)

This soft creamy blue polish is just one of the new Tropadelic collection that hit stores in January. Having spotted it a couple of months back, it took me time to warm to the shade though as I kinda feel blue nails of this shade need some sunshine to look their best. 

Having had several compliments from complete strangers and learning that the gorgeous Fleur de Force has had the same when I instagrammed this shade, I can categorically tell you that you need this colour in your collection and on your nails STAT. Much akin to Essie's cult classic Bikini So Teeny, I actually prefer Fancy a Dip, not only for price point but for longevity on the nail. It's a winner. You want it. 

2. Beverly Hills Formula Perfect White: Black: €2.39 Here

When the lovely crowd at Beverly Hills Formula sent me a box stuffed full of gnasher goodies for the Gorgebags and myself, it was the black toothpaste that intrigued each of us right off the bat. Formulated with active charcoal to combat bad breath and proven to whiten teeth effectively, the three of us used it within 10 minutes of opening the box and it's 6 big fat thumbs up from us. 

I noticed my teeth appeared whiter within just 5 days, not only that but my breath feels fresher. There's nothing quite like a bright white smile to brighten your day and the day of those you choose to smile maniacally at too. Within 5 weeks we've used two tubes between 3 of us and will continue to do so when I restock this week. Love. It. 

3. L'Occitane Almond Supple Skin Oil: €41 here

There are many scents and products that L'Occitane produce that glide onto my HG list with ease. Divine creams with Immortelle, ANYTHING Cherry obvs and then the Almond collection, the beautiful, beautiful Almond collection. Every time I have a chance at reduced cost L'Occitane goods, it's the Almond collection I stock up on and that's not about to change. 

This new formula Supple Skin Oil is made with more than 50% almond oil, camelina oil and omegas 3 and 6 to nourish and soften the skin. Housed in a heavyweight glass bottle but with a handy spray dispenser, this light, non greasy oil fills the room with scent but absorbs into the skin easily leaving you with the softest, silkiest finish imaginable. Having shared this with my Momma on hols as a pre bedtime skin treat, it was a fight to the almost death (hers) to pack it back into my own bag come home time. I'll certainly be repurchasing and buying her one too. I'm the best child like that. I am!

4.Pantene Pro-V Youth Protect 7 BB Creme £6.99 here

The first of its kind (in a BB sense) on the market, I was dubious to try the Pantene anti-aging hair cream, full sure it was a gimmick. This one I handed over to my Momma and made her promise a full review. How shocked I was when she pulled it from her holiday bag and gushed about its brilliance, forgetting her solemn vow and thinking she'd bought it herself. How very dare she. 

Having used it for the week of holidays and being blown away by the sleek, shiny and altogether more put together grúaig it gave me, I picked one up for myself within days of our return. Lightly scented but packing a serious haircare punch, don't let the BB tag put you off this particular product. Unlike many of its counterparts this is an actual beauty balm worth 5 times its price. 

5. Geox Eleni Zip Lock Wedges, Pearl: €139.99 here

I have waxed lyrical about Purple Tag for weeks now, the Irish site with free delivery and free returns (collected from your doras!), their shoe selection for the whole family is stylish but competitively priced. I'll have a full post with a CherrySue discount code up very soon but I couldn't let May Favourites pass without mentioning my purchase from the site. 

Having been crippled (sometimes literally) with back woes since August, pretty heels or height in general is a distant memory for me. These Geox wedge trainers have changed all of that and then some. The most comfortable yet stylish trainers I've worn, these too have elicited compliments from strangers in the street (well on the bus and at beauty events) and they make me feel a little bit swish again. There's something about a good shoe (or trainer) that just makes you feel good and these do that for me. Thanks Purple Tag, you ledgebags. 

6. Shiseido Sun Protection Liquid Foundation: €39 here

I was delighted to receive this little blue bottle of beauty from Shiseido just 2 days before our trip away. Not normally one for any foundation while enjoying the sun, the Factor 30 element intrigued me and I knew I had to try it. 

Water (incl perspiration) and oil resistant, you only need the tiniest amount of this light weight liquid to glide across your entire face. I was genuinely blown away by just how much I like the soft matte appearance of this foundation on my skin. It blends easily and lasts for hours (but do reapply should you be using it as your SPF)(we all know that, right?). 

I've reached for it over any of my other bases once home too, so impressed am I with its colour correcting and tone enhancing skillz. Again, this is one I'll be buying again as soon as its through. Great for those with hyper pigmentation, to conceal the pigment present and prevent further discoloration. Gorgeous stuff altogether. 

7. Argan 5+ Body Butter: €7.98 here (Usually €11.99)

I had thought Argan Oil had had its day once more and more products emblazoned it on their labels but with questionable ingredient lists. There is no denying the luxurious effect it can have on skin and hair though, once blended properly. Argan 5+ have done just that in combining it with 4 other oils, vitamins, omega oils and antioxidants. 

Thick and luxurious to the touch, I found slathering it on aprés shower cocooned my skin and locked in moisture so that every morning I wake up with soft, supple skin, everywhere. Argan 5+ behaves more like a high end body butter than the affordable find that it is and, for that alone, you and your skin need to try it out, tout suite. 

8. Stila Smudge Stick in Deep Burgundy: $8.99 here

Long time Stila Smudge Stick fan, when I saw the Deep Burgundy shade lauded on Cora's (Vintage or Tacky) April Faves video I knew it would be mine. Having stalked the Stila UK site waiting for them to restock, to no avail, I turned to eBay. The seller had it in my mitts within the fortnight and it was love at first smudge. 

Burgundy colours do something pretty incredible to blue/green eyes and this Stila offering is no different. It glides on like silk, gives you a mo or so for smudging and kablammo, it's in place until it's physically removed anything up to 12 hours later. 

More subtle than black but not as obvious as most coloured liner, this is one of the most flattering eyeliners I've ever worn. I'll instagram my súil to show you just why I love it so and why I'm ordering another one this week. Cheers for the heads up Cora & Jamie!

9. Nuxe Sun Refreshing After-sun Lotion: €18.91 here

It's not often you'll find a paraben free, luxury after-sun that's gentle enough to use on both your face and body but Nuxe have come up trumps with their Refreshing After-Sun Lotion as part of their new Nuxe Sun range. 

Formulated, like their SPFs of the same line with water hyacinth, sunflower and carob seed powder (which stimulates melanogenesis and prolongs your natural tan for up to two weeks) it smells divine. The whole family used it following our showers, while away and it felt like giving our skin a much needed drink following long, hot days in the 30 degree sunshine. I'm still using this now, even though we're home and truth be told, were Nuxe to introduce a body lotion without the after-sun element but in this scent, I'd use it forever more. Has to be smelled to be believed. 

10. Handmade Watercolour Floral Infinity Scarf: €15.92 here

There are very few times I'll venture outside the house sans scarf, there's something about their ability to complete an outfit, disguise last minute stains and their innate ability to save the day  that has me hooked. 

Coming into the summer months though, I always change up my scarf selection and as such I hit up Etsy this spring to prepare myself. Cue some of the most beautiful neck adornments I've ever laid eyes upon. This soft focus chiffon infinity scarf is one of the most flattering I own and goes with pretty much everything. I've paired it with jersey tops and coloured skinnys to add a little class to an otherwise casual look and worn it over work blouses to soften up the edge. Either way you slice it, it's a win. 

Yep I bought several scarves aswell as this one, it'd be rude not to at €15 but each are truly unique. You're not about to see 25 identical ones on the Luas, as you do when you make your scarf purchases in Penney's or the like... Unless of course you all buy this one now that I've pointed it out... You would do that, wouldn't you?

2013 Top 10 Beauty Faves ft Bourjois, Benefit, Rimmel, La Roche-Posay, Smashbox, Maybelline, Loccitane, Stila & L'Oreal

Were you to tell me at any stage during the year that I'd whittle down every purchase, pr sample and press release down to ten of my very favourites then I'd have laughed in your face so haughtily that the breeze would have ruffled your mane - but I've only gone and done it. 

These Top Ten of 2013 are not only products that knocked my beauty socks off but that I have purchased again, purchased for gifts and seriously believe your life could be enriched by purchasing too. They're great like. 

1. L'Oreal's False Lash Flutter Midnight 

Black Mascara

Choosing a mascara of the year is much akin to Sophie's Choice, that's how highly I rate the lash coaters ability to change your entire visage. Benefit's They're Real has been a stalwart of mine with YSL's BabyDoll elbowing it's way to the front and Maybelline's The Rocket holding it's own but once I'd given False Lash Flutter a... well flutter, they were all forgotten. 

This is all of those mascaras combined and then some. Perfect formulation, unusually effective brush and ne'er a clump nor flake to be seen. If you haven't tried these puppies yet - do it. 

2. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum

Again the competition was stiff in 2013 for one foundation to rule them all. Smashbox's Liquid Halo revolutionised gel effect coverage, Clarins Extra Comfort quenched the skins of the nation and Max Factor's Whipped Cream foundation changed the minds of thousands but Bourjois, my sneaky little petite pois, you did it again with Healthy Mix Serum. 

I have recommended no other foundation as often as I have this and that's across the board to friends, family, colleagues and even once or twice to undecided browsers in Boots. Healthy Mix Serum glides over your skin, and sits weightlessly in place affording me to look a hell of a lot better than I have any right to do and it has never, not once let me down. For a Healthy Mix, I have an unhealthy obsesh. 

3. Rimmel Salon Pro with Lycra in Assoc

If ever I were to be run over by a bus the thing I'd most dread people finding is not my shady internet search history but my vast and I mean VAST nail polish stash. We're talking thousands so when it comes to choosing a standout for an entire year that's damn near impossible. 

Were I to choose the line that I repeatedly cleaned off and reapplied time after time though? The Rimmel Salon Pro line win, hands down. With a huge range of brights, nudes and pastels, these lycra infused polishes dry to a higher shine than any other I've worn sans top coat. They've also garnered the most compliments from random strangers. At just €6.45 (or 2 for €8) these polishes should be a staple in every girls stash. 

4. Benefit Rockateur

I've always been a big fan of Benefit's Box o' Powders collection, not so much the exorbitant prices they charge their Irish fans but as a product, I've loved each and every one. When the word broke that not only would their newest box, Rockateur be smaller but that it'd be the same price as the rest I swore I wouldn't cave. SWORE. 

That was until I was giftef a FeelUnique.com voucher and realised that I could nab it for £23 with free delivery. From the first swish it was lust. Rockateur gives me that subtle rose gold glow that even I have to do a double take to appreciate time and again. It's creamy soft, it's stupidly flattering and it's easily the prettiest blush product I've ever owned. (I even bought a second one and I NEVER buy a second one)

5. Smashbox Always Sharp Pencils

While Stila, Essence and even Sigma have all had my heart this year as far as liners go, the Smashbox Always Sharp Pencils just can't be beaten for me. In a range of six colours, that have been extended with 3D shimmering versions, these point tipped pencils give me a perfect line every single time. You get in and around a minute to smudge it up or leave it as is and Hey Presto, it's stuck. 

The innovative lid means you never have to find a sharpener again as with two twists the pencil is magically sharpened again to a perfect point. There are cheaper pencils but when it's a result you want every single time, without fail I'd go with this pencil again and again. 

6. Loccitane Divine Cream

I truly couldn't count the amount of ablutions, creams and concoctions that I was lucky enough to try this year. La Roche-Posay's Hydraphase Intense has to get an honorable mention, Shiseido's Ibuki moisturiser for luxury pampering and L'Oreal's Revitalift Laser Renew blowing both the Mother and me away, the top spot still has to go to Loccitane's Divine Cream. 

Relaunched in 2013, I have genuinely never used a face cream that made such a dramatic difference to the appearance and feel of my visage in such a short space of time. It's not chump change at €82 for 50ml but the tiniest amount goes a very long way. Having used my press sample sparingly, lovingly but religiously, I parted with my hard earned eurobux in December and re bought this elixir - not only that but I'll do it again. 

7. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Lips

You're right you know, as far as I'm concerned there's nothing the LRP team can't do when it comes to healing, treating and enhancing our skin. I have yet to try a product that I didn't love, even if the blue and white packaging baffles even me sometimes. 

The launch of Cicaplast lips in 2013, however, was a revelation. I use Cicaplast Baume B5 for anything and everything and recommend it until I'm as blue in the face but this paraben free, fragrance free lip version of the balm has literally saved my kisser several times. During a hellish few days in A&E over Christmas this was the only thing to save my dry and aching lips - giving me instant relief and comfort and healing my dry, sore lips in the space of a day. 

To be used as a cracking base for brightly coloured lippies, a salve for red sore schnozzes or just as a lip saviour for all the family, this little white tube is a handbag/pocket/purse/glovebox/desk essential. 

8. Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Concealer

Though a little hesitant about this concealer at first glance, I think it was the spnge applicator that gave me the heebie jeebies, Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind won me 'round and how. 

Bright enough to use under eye, it instantly vamooses my dark circles. I press the concealer onto my finger to cover up blemishes and I insist on having this in my bag when I get my brows threaded as it instantly calms and covers the tell tale redness associated. I've found it tough to find this one in stores but as soon as I do? STOCKPILE. 

9. L'Oreal Studio #TXT Supersizing Volume Spray

I can only imagine that Trish from Love/Hate was going through cans of this stuff in Season 4 to achieve her majestic disco lion's mane. L'Oreal's #TXT works better than any other volumising spray I've ever used and at half the price too. 

No stickiness, no shine, no mahoosive knottage as a result just larrrrge voluminous grúaig in just a couple of sprays. This stuff does EXACTLY what it says on the tin. Awesome. 

10. Stila In the Light Palette

The amount of shadows and palettes I possess is not natural, I know this. I have recognised it as an illness and accepted it about myself (whilst buying more palettes) but if I were to pick one of the stacks of 'em that stood out in 2013 it would have to be the Stila In the Light wonder. 

Easily the most beautiful and versatile neutral palette I own, there's rarely a day goes by that I don't reach for this. Basically any eye look can be achieved with zero fall out and incredible staying power. Every single time I travel, this is the one palette that comes with and that's not for nothing. If you're a neutral fan, I'd urge you to add this to your collection sooner rather than later. I guarantee you won't regret it.

November Faves ft New Look, Smashbox, Rimmel, Lush, L’Oréal, Bourjois & Max Factor

Now that we're slightly over the trauma of November being possibly the quickest month in the history of months ever, it's time for me to share my stand outs of the past four weeks. 

Having spent the vast majority of the month holed up at home and wearing little or no slap, this month's picks are  more about what makes me feel better quickly. Let me know if you agree with any of 'em!

1. L’Oréal Hair Chalk: €18.61 here. 

Having been too chicken and not at all 'too old' as Adam says to dip dye my hair this past year these L’Oréal hair chalks got an audible 'YUSS' when I opened the package a fortnight ago. 

Available in 8 colours these vibrant tress enhancers are more a liquid polish that dries in place than a chalk and can change your look in minutes and will wash out in two shampoos. I'll have a full post up with pics v soon but as of now, in my opinion, you NEED to check these out!

2. MAX Factor Wild Shadow Pencils: €8.99 here. 

When it comes to make up simplicity Max Factor have it down. These new shadow pencils are not only available in a cracking line up of 8 metallic smudgeable shades but once they've dried they're there to stay. 

I brought 4 of these beauties to Berlin with me to save on liquid allowance and palette schlepping and I was never once stuck for quick, swipeable onnable shadow simplicity (it's a thing). Caramel Rage is by far my favourite but do yourself a favour and swatch these pencils in store. You'll be impressed!

3. Bourjois CC Cream: €13.99 (launching Jan '14) 

Now normally I don't include a favourite that has yet to launch but Bourjois have once again knocked it out of the beauty park with their 123 CC Cream. 

Boasting 3 colour correcting pigments to combat bags, pigmentation and any number of other unwelcome visage shades this CC cream glides on effortlessly and really does last all day long. While I topped it with a little powder on my forehead, this really does help my pigmentation and feels like I'm wearing nothing at all (insert vision of Sexy Flanders here)

4. L'Oreal Paris False Lash Flutter Mascara Midnight Purple: €16.79 here

There's not many mascaras that WOW me straight from the tube and the unassuming butterfly wing shaped brush on this False Lash Flutter offering didn't promise to be anything more than a lash separating tool - how wrong I was. 

Batting it's way straight to the top my go to mascaras, this Midnight Purple lifts, separates and coats every single lash to perfection - think They're Real crossed with YSL's Babydoll and you're almost there. At less than €17, I would've paid twice that had I known what this would do for my súiles and I.   

5. SmashBox Wonder Vision Mega Palette: €60 here

I waxed lyrical about this mega palette with full pictures and swatches here  but honestly, until you feel the velvety soft shadows in this beauty bounty there's no way you can truly appreciate it. 

Having not been off my eyes since I bought it (bar Berlin)(when I missed it greatly) this palette is pretty much everything you need when it comes to eye shadow - no that doesn't mean I'll relinquish my stash nor that I'll stop buying but hand on heart, I haven't reached for any other shade since this joined my kit. 

6. Rimmel Precious Stones in Diamond Dust: €5.49 here: 

This post showed exactly how perfect this sparklefest polish is for silly season and it's another 'look at it with your actual eyeballs' product. 

Densely packed holo glitters in every shape and suspended in a thick charcoal jelly means there's not a finger tip in Ireland that wouldn't be flattered by this polish. 

7. Lush Sikkim Girls Body Cream: £24.95 here. 

While seeming a little pricey to begin with this unctuous body lotion from Lush is fast becoming one of my favourites of the entire natural brand. Chock full of Darjeeling Tea, Vanilla Pod and Jasmine Flower Infusion, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Cupuacu Butter, Organic Hemp Oil, Glycerine, Honey, Peach Kernel Oil, Sikkim Girls is an out and out thigh rubber when it comes to supple soft and delicately scented skin. 

This little vid shows how this pot of wonder is made but I urge you to ask the Lush ladies (or gents) for a tester of this body lotion and allow it to convert you entirely in just one use. 

8. Drink Me Chai Latte in Peppermint: €5 here. 

A new lover of spicy Chai tea and sweetened Chai lattes, I was thrilled to see this ready made tub on the market stalls in Berlin. The eldest whipped out his wallet and bought both the Sis and I a tub each, had I known he'd be drinking it religiously too I'd have bought more!

This sweet, peppermint drink puts me in mind of a pumpkin spice latte and is not only 99% caffeine free and a known killer of chocolate cravings but it's also a cinch to make. Loving it longtime!

9. New Look Wide Fit Knee High Boots: €49.99 here

These leather look boots have not only saved my skin but they've saved my legs and feet this past month too. With a little block heel that makes them some of the most comfortable boots I've owned, the elasticated backing makes them a doddle to pull on and off and to wear all day long without issue. 

Easily dressed down or up, these New Look boots came to my aid brilliantly as we walked the length and breadth of Berlin last week. Not one blister, cut or chilly knee to be seen. I'll be buying 'em in black too - you mark my words.

NOTD: Rimmel Precious Stones - Diamond Dust

I'm a firm believer in the term 'Glitter, it's not just for Christmas' but Rimmel have knocked it out of the park this holiday season with their Precious Stones polishes. This one pictured is Diamond Dust and I'm a little bit infatuated. 

Taken in dimmer light you can see that the sparkle is very wearable and isn't about to take the eye of anyone. But once the light catches this glitter, it truly comes to life. 

I used two thin coats over a base of Essie's Vested Interest (dark green) but the glitters in Diamond Dust are so densely packed into the charcoal jelly polish that you genuinely can't tell. I'd recommend a dark base regardless as worn alone, the polish can seem a little sheer, that and glitter is a pigdog for scratching the nail bed when being removed.  

As with all thick glitter polishes, Precious Stones is gritty to the touch so you'll need a topcoat to even it out, brighten the glitter (as if it needed it) and prolong wear time. Again, glitter is a fickle mare when it comes to chipping but two coats of this with a Seche Vite top coat meant I got three straight days with zero chips. I used my remover of choice, Cutex Moisture and it rubbed right off with no scrathcing or fluting about. 

There's two colours in the Rimmel Precious Stones line this and Ruby Crush (red & silver), they're €5.49 each but on 3 for 2 at the moment in Boots and you'll find 'em here.
