Mad Max: Fury Road - Movie Review

What's It About? 

Max is kidnapped by Immortan Joe and his War Boys, and must escape by running away with Imperator Furiosa, Immortan's "Breeders" - women with healthy pregnancies - and the War Boy Nux in a giant armoured oil tanker.

Any Good?

I have never been so tired or sore after a movie, Fury Road is relentless in shooting, driving, explosions, and INCREDIBLY loud music. There is maybe a 10 minute break near the end, but even that doesn't last before it's LOUD NOISES AND DEATH again, I LOVE it.

The action is non-stop, from the first 5 minutes it's immediate punch and run, with Max escaping Immortan Joe's slave base by beating his War Boys and having serious hallucinations. The soundwork was fantastic in the film and was a real part of the action, every time the war parties were on the road there was a War Boy with a giant fire-spitting guitar shredding his heart out on a giant vehicle made of a speakers fit in perfectly - Nolan needs to learn how to do loud music from this.

Immortan Joe

This film really takes advantage of its 15A rating, having serious blood and gore as well as scenes of slaves being beaten and women being drained of milk (yep, lovely) as well as naked women, I'm surprised the American film industry didn't gimp it totally to be more family friendly. 

I haven't seen the original Mad Max films in some time, but this really felt like the 80's style they were done in, as well as the original Fury Road comics and other films like Conan the Barbarian with giant mountain bases. Australian Bane is perfect as Max, and "the feminist legion" are great, and make sense dammit. I thoroughly recommend watching this in cinemas, and in isense if you can because not only is the soundtrack amazing but it uses classic 3D where things come out of the screen!

The Raid 2 - Coming Soon

Yep it's coming soon, and yep, I am HYPED! 

The first was a total wild ride from the start; and this looks just as good if not better due to the wide setting. Quick hands, guns and environmental kills spell out a movie that is pure gold action and will be relentless like all dark Korean films. 

With the original being one of the only movies to recieve the illusive 5 cherries, figures like 94% from Rotten Tomatoes and 79% from Metacritic makes Berandal looks to be storming the critics again and just adds fuel to the fire of excitement in our house.

Wreck it Ralph - Movie Review

What's it About? 

Having played the bad guy in his arcade game for decades forever in the shadow of Fix -it-Felix, Ralph yearns for the acceptance of his game mates and to prove that he can be the hero if only he were given the opportunity. Fully believing that winning a medal in one of the most dangerous games in the arcade will prove him a hero, Ralph sets off on his quest. Can he return before his game is unplugged forever? 
 

Any Good? 

As soon as I set eyes on Sheng Long, Tapper and Q*Bert in Disney's latest animated trailer, I knew I'd be hooked. Wreck it Ralph has an echoes of the legendary Toy Story in that the characters come to life once our backs are turned, oh and that it's one of the best animated movies in the past ten years. 

Gameplay and story sequences are a technicolour triumph, saturated in vivid colour and an absolute joy to behold. For the first time in a very long time, I'm going to recommend you see this in 3D. Although each of the Hollywood A-Listers chosen to voice the cast are instantly recognisable in their own right, they embody their on screen players with ease and I can't imagine a better fit for any one of them. 

When our loveable protagonist, Ralph takes matters into his own oversized hands and 'goes Turbo', things go from bad to worse very quickly and he ends up in the saccharin sweet game, Sugar Rush. Meeting up with seriously adorable, wise cracking Vanellope von Schweetz (an outsider in her own game) they reluctantly team up to achieve their respective goals and prove that friendship and determination can triumph regardless of adversity. 

In truth, from the opening sequences of Wreck it Ralph I was transported back to six year old CherrySue, wide eyed and entranced. The visual attention to detail is stunning, the script extremely tight, clever and the story as heartfelt and laugh out loud funny as Disney have ever produced. Throw in dazzling 3D and a spot on score and you've the making of 107 minutes of cinematic magic.
