You may have seen this make up tutorial from Lauren Luke, raising awareness of domestic abuse that has gone viral over the past couple of days. It's hugely powerful and astutely taps into the current Youtube beauty tutorial craze to reach the girls and women that may be suffering in silence at the hands of a violent or abusive partner.

A Crash Course to Shine comes from teenage Dutch make up Artist Nikkie from Nikkietutorials.com in association with Volkswagon. Some of you may know that I work as a Road Safety Officer 'in real life' so this one genuinely touches a nerve. Statistics show that in 2009 alone over half a million girls and women were involved in road accidents as a direct result of applying make up, while driving.

You may be thinking that people couldn't be that silly, that ignorant of the safety of not only themselves but of the other road users, of children walking to school and men and women commuting with their families. Surely they don't think their second coat of mascara, sweep of blush or slick of lipgloss is more important than taking responsibility for the vehicle they're driving? Unfortunately some people do. It only takes a second of lapsed concentration to irrevocably change your life and the lives of others while you're driving.
