Interstellar ~ Movie Review!

Who's In It?

 and

What's It About?

All the food in the world except corn has fallen to the potato blight of the 1840's and a new planet is needed for some reason, I dunno, it's a damn space exploration movie!!

Any Good?

After a year of r/movies circlejerking themselves raw over this movie, and Nolan in general, I reaaaally wanted this to be bad, but oh how wrong I was. The earth scenes were nonsensical, boring and really made made the film feel the full near 3 hours, but the space scenes are a complete experience.

As you can imagine, I'm a big fan of spacey, timey wimey...stuff and this movie blew me away. Even under the more-than-likely patented stupid loud music that blocks everything out, Nolan employs the silence of all space activity and it was slightly haunting - fair play 'che kicking the BWOOOOOM addiction there Chris!

The film itself is beyond beautiful, space is expansive, silent and lurking, while the worlds themselves were honestly (pun a little intended) out of this world. Even one of the planets, which seemed obviously shot in the sea was so alien it was incredible, you get a true feeling of being an explorer as they traverse the new galaxy and its planets.

As you can expect in midst of the McConnaissance, the man himself was fantastic, given a better script it would have topped his favourite performance of mine in Dallas Buyers Club. Anne Hathaway was actually pretty great, I'm usually meh towards her but she performed the, again weak, script more than admirably. But the real stand-out performance for me was Bill Irwin as the robot TARS, that beautiful soulbot had to be my favourite character.

Marvin? R2D2? Legion? Nah, TARS is the real botbro.

I really enjoyed this movie, well worth the full watch time (pee breaks at earth parts, they're baaad) and can even make you cry several times. TARS was like Marvin from Hitchhicker's Guide crossed with R2D2, he was awesome and his design may make him my favourite robot in all of cinema. If you can look past the weak script in general (ESPECIALLY in young Murph's area) like I did you'll love this just as much as I did, it's a feature length, better Doctor Who movie.

Autumnal Nail Faves - Five of The Best

For as long as I've been a beauty lover, I've been a huge polish fan too - maybe longer. While I don't dabble as much in the nail art end of things quite as much as I used to - blame ALL of the work I'm lucky enough to be doing - I still love to paint my talons on the daily. Yes, Summer colours are where my heart lie but there's just something about Autumnal shades that make that seasonal shift a little easier. Wouldn't you agree?

Essie Take It Outside
Essie's Take It Outside from their Fall '14 collection is easily the stand out nude of the year for me. Almost cast like in the bottle, this shade comes to life with purple and pink undertones once the light catches it. The unassuming shade is flattering on all skin tones and has been flattering mine on the regular these past weeks.

Catrice Metalfusion
Catrice have never not impressed me when it comes to polishes. I can't count the amount of times I've sent pals and readers in the direction of their stands for high quality, cheap as chips polishes to suit all occasions. Metallure is the Autumn/Winter collection (more on that later) and Metalfusion here is the stand out lacquer for me. Opaque in one coat, stunning in two, this pewter foil wears like a polish 5 times it's €2.99 price.

Essie Partner in Crime with China Glaze BOO-Gie Down
Talk about unassuming, Essie's Partner in Crime had to be the one from the collection that had me least enthused. I mean, it's brown. Straight up, no frills about it, brown. It's only when you paint it on that something magical happens - you realise that actually, you quite like brown. It's a stunning autumnal colour and with the aid of China Glaze's BOO-gie Down from their Halloween '13 collex, you get this gorgeous mani. It's one of my most liked Insta nail pics - who can argue with that?

Bourjois Violine Hypnotique
When it comes to autumn, nothing says seasonal nails quite like a rich burgundy metallic. Think Chanel's Rouge Noir but with a subtle microshimmer that lights up in sunlight. That and lasts a hella lot longer too. Bourjois' Violine Hypnotique has been a standing fave of mine since its introduction and is genuinely one that I look forward to wearing as the weather gets colder. It's also been known to make an appearance on my tootsies all year 'round.

Nails Inc Porchester Square
The spendiest of the bunch and my second favourite nude, Nails Inc Porchester Square is a doozy. A dream to apply (Nails Inc know their brush shizz) this wears better than any nude I own. Though it's a beaut on its own, I can never help myself but add a little su'him 'su'him. The glitter here is an antique gold from a Claire's Accessories stack that probably cost a fiver for 10. BARG.AIN. That's the thing about autumnal nails, glitter is back in the game - choose your favourite base and go to town with complementing or contrasting colours. The world really is your glittery lobster.

I could go on and on and Arist-on about favourite polishes but I'll leave my Autumn picks there... for now...

Tell us, what do you like to wear this time of year? If you have NOTD posts, sure the more's the better, pop you link in the comments below and we'll all take a squizz!

Luxury Penthouse Living in The Clarence Hotel, Dublin!

I would never tire of waking up to this view of the heart of Dublin.

I know we usually bring you the best ways to see a city or a country on a budget but I thought, occasionally, you might like to see the splurges too. Have you ever wondered what was housed in that bright green penthouse on top of one of Dublin's top hotels, The Clarence? Well wonder no more!

Sue & I were lucky enough to spend a night in room 501 at The Clarence Hotel recently. I say lucky, as when we were checking in we were advised that the Penthouse was available that night & asked would we like a complimentary upgrade. Who says no to that?!

Keep scrolling & we’ll give you a sneak peek at the luxury that awaits you in the penthouse suite. Unfortunately we can’t show you all of our photos but we’ll certainly give you a flavour of our night between Bono’s sheets!! Disclaimer: Bono wasn’t actually there at the same time we were otherwise that would have been just downright awkward - I mean the three of us wearing shades indoors? Catastrophe.

Horns - Movie Review

Who's In It?

 and

What's It About?

Ig Perrish wakes up one morning after being blackout drunk to find himself wanted for the murder of his girlfriend, he then proclaims that if he did it let the Devil curse him, as luck would have it, this leads him starting to sprout horns the very next day.

Any Good?

I could put good money in any betting establishment that this film will tank totally at the cinema, but make millions on download or DVD (What year is it?!) sales. It's a cult classic in every right, it has the premise, the great soundtrack and the effects, but most of all, it's just the mess you've come to know as a cult film.

Certainly not one for the Ophidiophobic (people afraid of snakes, i.e. common sense)

I like this movie, for all its faults (such as a gratuitous childhood flashback that meant NOTHING AT ALL) it's cool as hell. The soundtrack suits, the dialogue is hilarious in parts, and it even gets heart-hurty at times due to the horns causing people to tell their true feelings. Some scenes are totally badass and genuinely give the feel that Ig is descending into a devil, but those are for you to enjoy.

This film is like watching a game of Cluedo, where you know that literally EVERYONE is the murderer from the start; then as the guilty flashbacks start to flow you get an idea of what happened, but still everyone did it! Then, when it ends, you just sit there and think "wait, I knew that..", it just keeps you guessing at all times.

Horns is a twisty film that will have you angry when Ig doesn't just jump on the first suspect because it's so obvious, but it happens with every character and it works pretty well. I'd say if you like things like Hellboy, Scott Pilgrim or Kevin Smith movies, this is for you; otherwise it just won't interest you at all. Even if you don't go to see this for Halloween, make sure to watch it and tell me what you think, I really liked it and dear Mammy couldn't get past the first 10 minutes.

Smashbox Photo Finish - 15 First Impressions!

So last month there was a pretty spiffy deal running with Smashbox in Dublin, in that you present yourself to the ladies on counter and, after a short consultation, you receive a free full size Photo Finish primer of your choosing.

Safe to say, once I tweeted this news, all hell broke loose. The 50 samples from the Blanchardstown counter were gone within an hour! The 50 in Arnott's didn't fare much better.

I sent out a tweet last week to ask for first impressions of the product, and should you be in the market for a primer, you're prolly gonna wanna read these:

Spooky Halloween Hair For Girls - A Simple How To

Who doesn’t love spending time looking at all the pretty things & genius ideas on Pinterest? I know I do. When I have the time that is. I love nothing more than looking at the photos & occasionally thinking to myself, I could give that a go. That’s where I got the idea of doing my daughters hair like spiders for Halloween.

We shared the best places for Halloween breaks this morning and these would be ideal to pop into your bag to do your little one's hair for their kids clubs and Halloween shindigs. It’s so easy to do you won’t believe it.

Jeepers Creepers, We've Spooky Mid-Term Sleepers! The Best Halloween Fun Ireland Has To Offer

Double, Double, Toil & Trouble.......

I love Halloween especially since having little ones as I use them as an excuse to go overboard with the decorating & sweet buying/eating! While on our travels in the US we picked up lots of fantastic Halloween decorations in Wal-Mart for a few Dollars as they were so hard to get in Ireland a few years ago.

This year more than ever I’ve noticed more & more hotels & tourist boards taking advantage of the Halloween mid-term break, offering families great things to do & places to stay at great rates. I’ve compiled a list of 5 of the best; all are places we've been so I'll happily recommend. Some fun stops are guaranteed to scare you witless as they are adults only!!

Monday's Moments ~ 20/10/14

I've said it for a couple of weeks running and I'll say it again, life is preeettty freakin' sweet right now. I know it's not entirely down to to positive thinking, of course it's not but I genuinely believe if you take the time to be grateful for the small things, life begins to throw some pretty fabulous big things your way too.

Just five of the Moments that have banished ALL Monday blues 'round these parts are:

1. Aaron Returning My Leap Card AFTER He'd Doubled Its Credit!

2. Fluffy Emma Gifting Me The New Chanel Gloss -
Just Because It's My Colour

3. Managing To Nab The Lorac Mega Pro Palette
At The Last Minute!

4. Adam Saving American Horror Story So We Could Watch It Together
(If you have/know teens you'll know this is HUGE)

5. Being Booked For My First Paid Blogger Event!

This week is kicking ASS and I have to stop to gather my thoughts every so often so as not to completely lose the run of myself. Things are very good right now and that feels pretty epic. It's looking like that's set to continue this week too
so I'll happily ride this wave for as long as I possibly can.

Tell us, what's great that's going on with you right now? What's the one Moment that tops all others for you?

The Best of Me - Movie Review

Who's In It?

 and

What's It About?

Two people who were together as teenagers meet and have an affair after 20 years - you know the story.

Any Good?

Short answer? No, not at all. Long answer? This film was not only had one of the worst scripts I've ever seen, but it was downright offensive in what it portrayed. The main thing I take from any of Nicholas Sparks' work, and from this movie in particular, is that ALL women cheat on their husbands with people they knew as teenagers and the husbands deserve it because every married male is a caricature of fat-cat bankers - right down to the whiskey and golf.

The err.. new Nicholas Sparks movie - adultery intact!

The only way this disgrace was stomach-able was playing guess the script/story with Ally, which gained us many a salty look due to our spot on guesses of explosions (I know..) and James Marsdon's lines. I honestly just can't flesh out a good commentary on the acting, this is worse than one of those Lifetime movies you watch if your Sky shuts off for a day and it certainly didn't help that young Dawson (Marsdon) actually looked like an older JGL - older than both honestly.

In this huge pit of dirt and rough there was one diamond - hillbilly fights are HILARIOUS. I honestly laughed at every scene Dawson's hillbilly family was in - just YouTube it some time, do NOT give Sparks money for this absolute tripe. I shall leave you all with one question - is Nicholas Sparks the greatest con-man of our time with his ability to sell the same morally questionable story time and time again? Watch your backs Ponzi and L. Ron Hubbard, you have new competition..

NO CHERRIES FOR YOU, SPARKS, MON FRÉRE
