Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Tilt ~ Review!

I'm an absolute sucker for coral shades in all things makeup. Blusher, lipstick, gloss ~ gotta have it! So when I saw one of the nine new Matte Revolution lipsticks from Urban Decay was a hot coral called Tilt, I knew I had to at least swatch it. Matte lipsticks are very difficult to get right you see, truth is I've only ever gotten on with two before Elizabeth Arden's Bold Red REVIEWED HERE and Charlotte Tilbury's Lost Cherry SEEN HERE. Tilt though lured me in from the first google image. 

Usually with bright lipsticks I'll swatch on counter and go on my merry way to consider the purchase unless it's out of this world. Tilt is out of this world. I was still gawping at my one swipe swatch when the very friendly SA, Demi asked if I needed some assistance. I was heading to Miss Ireland that night and knew I needed a killer lippie to go with a black gúna. I also knew I can be cack handed in application so she very kindly applied my fill face, Tilt included. 

The first thing I noticed was the creamy texture in application, noticeably so for a matte lipstick. That's down to the long list of nourishing ingredients, including a blend of avocado, olive and babassu oils. Shea butter conditions; illipe butter and both vitamin E &C. 

The pigmentation is unlike any lipstick I own. I had first thought it a dupe for Lost Cherry but in application it's more a hybrid of Lost Cherry & MAC's Lady Danger together. It packs a seriously colourful punch. 

Demi used the matching 24/7 lip liner as, though seriously pigmented, these lippies have a tendency to feather slightly. Normally that's OK but with colours as bright as these you're going to want to contain 'em. I've since used NYX's Wonder Pencil with this and After Dark (a plum matte metallic from the same range) so you really don't need to shell out for the liner too. Clarins also have fab nude lip pencils upcoming to suit your skin tone but more on those soon. 

While there is transfer to glasses and hands (if you're handsy like me), Tilt never once smudged for the entire night. I pulled it out to reapply after dinner as my lips felt soft (not the norm with matte lippies) but there was no need. My lips were still as bright as before, it hadn't budged.

Elizabeth Arden's Beautiful Color Matte Lipstick in Bold Red. Photos & Lip Swatches!

Given the choice of lipstick finishes I opt for satin every time. It's not that I can't make a matte work, it's just that it's just that, work. That's why when at an Elizabeth Arden launch last week they mentioned incoming moisturizing lipsticks with a matte finish, my interest was piqued. The Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipsticks in their 6 new Matte finishes are matte, Jim, but not as you know it. 

Given our choice of the six new shades, I'd never have believed you if you told me I'd choose Bold Red but Natalie, one of the lovely ladies presenting, was wearing this bright cherry red, saturated with colour and I genuinely couldn't take my eyes off it. 

My one abiding memory of Elizabeth Arden, as a brand, was seeing potions and lotions lined up on my Aunt's dresser in New York, when I was a girl. I recall being mesmerised by the way each bottle and jar managed to capture the famous red door in its design. Chances are those potions and lotions are where my love for high end packaging originated. Thank YOU, Aunty Peg! 

Seeing these heavy weight, golden lipstick casings brought me right back to that memory. They're a beautiful design that belie the €26 price tag and that's before you even try the lippie inside. 

The lipsticks themselves are formulated with moisture rich pigments so you can feel luxury with the first swipe. Mango, shea & murumuru butters mean the rich colour glides on to the lips with zero effort and feels like no matte I've ever worn before. Satin texture powders form a film over the colour on the lip, which is undetectable to me but is credited with the 6 hours wear I got from Bold Red on its first outing. 

While I've always been hesitant when it comes to reds, Bold Red just makes me feel good while wearing. Definitely Bolder - I may have to brace myself for the effects when I pick up Nude...

Estée Lauder: Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick - Defiant Coral. A Guest Post from Lorrrrrrrrraine!

Did I need another coral lipstick? Er, maybe not. Did I need another coral lipstick in the new Estée Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting formula? YES. Hey, I probably wouldn't have turned down a lime green from the range. 

The lipsticks are blend of all the best bits you want - longevity, comfort, moisture and high colour. 

How'd they do it? I'd imagine the zillion years and billions of eurobux that Lauder can pour into research helps, but the nitty gritty is a premium selection of ingredients. Hyaluronic acid keeps things looking and feeling smooth, while buckets of pigment and bonding agents make for full-on colour that lasts.

And, even though it's bursting at the seams with fantabulosity, it doesn't feel like it. The texture is light, creamy and totally comfortable. Blindfold me and I'd think I was wearing a balm.

Defiant Coral: €29

Defiant Coral, is the one that Cherry Sue gave to me. It's not a true coral - orange tones are low and there's a dusty pink element that makes it much more wearable. 

It's not cheap, but there's no compromise in quality. A great lipstick, packaged in sleek and sturdy casing - it's luxe in every way. 

New Stila Color Balm Lipsticks: Gemma Swatch

While chatting with Janie Howarth, Stila's UK Pro Make Up Artist last week, one of the newest introductions from the brand for their Spring 2013 collection really caught my eye. These brand new Color Balm Lipsticks, housed in high shine silver tubes and available in 18 stunning colours really pack a punch when it comes to pigment (Look Maw, I can do Ps)

These creamy, extremely glossy shades have all the colour pay off of a long wear lipstick but are chock full of what makes balms so comfortable to wear. Hydrating emollient and cooling peppermint oil soothe the lips and mean that these Color Balm Lipsticks will give any lip butter a run for its money. There's also sunflower based polyglyceride that promises to ass volume and definition to your kisser. 

I've shown you here my natural lips, Gemma (bright violet pink) touched on lightly for a very wearable daytime lip tint with serious staying power and then full on colour. I've spoken before about how I'm more a coffee coloured lipstick fan  but this bright beauty is actually very flattering with my colouring and I've found myself reaching for it more and more.
