The Lego Movie - Movie Review

Who's in it?

 and

What's it about?

President/Lord Business has found the Kragle (the most powerful weapon in the world) and plans to make everything just according to his idea of perfection FOREVER. Mindless worker Emmet accidentally becomes attached to the only thing that can save the world and is subsequently named The Special and is to complete the prophecy to save the world.

Any Good?

This movie is HILARIOUS. I've never seen so many people at a press screening, from the start the whole place was laughing at every stupid joke because of how well delivered they were. All the cameos of different Lego guys were brilliant and well voiced, my favourite being Pa Cop; Liam Neeson, doing his best old father voice was so adorable and undeniably Irish Da.

These deserve their own post! Hmm..

The movie is such a satire on life at the start but it really gets deep when Bad Cop hauls in Emmet when the first of many great messages are shown. Lord Business pronouncing the names of the real world items in his room of 'relics' was Anchorman 'yogging' level and it's still funny even after all this time. The only downside of the movie was the way it turned into a damn generic Lego ad at the end after being a film that was so standalone, had so much heart and that was a huge disappointment.

The acting was great, Will Ferrell being himself is always perfect, Chris Pratt showing that he's more than just a shoe-shiner married to Aubury Plaza and Elizabeth Banks delivering her lines dead on every time. The real star had to be Will Arnett as Batman though, he was a brilliant parody of the growly and angsty Christian Bale and threw in plenty of references to classic Batman. Nearly all his lines are gold and he was a really well-written character in every scene. Also, BILLIE D. WILLIAMS AS LEGO LANDO. Instant Oscar material right there!

I had high expectations for this movie, and rightly so, it's AWESOME! It's so worth going with your friends (or alone, it's not weird I swear!) because it's like Adventure Time, great for kids and equally as good for adults no matter what age. As I said, all stellar except the whole twisting into it the ad for Lego that's been running since it came out, but that's only a small letdown.

Rating:

The (sigh..) Eldest Gorgebag
